SUNDAY POST

Are there Rewards in heaven? The Bible teaches us that after the Rapture of the church, Christians take part in the Marriage Supper of the Lamb and the Bema Seat judgment of Christians for their works done on earth. Crowns are awarded!

Both Romans 14:10 and 2 Corinthians 5:9 speak of the “judgment seat where all saved Christians will stand before Christ,  that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”

The word, Bema, was taken from the ancient Greek Isthmian games where the contestants would compete for the prize under the careful scrutiny of judges who would make sure that every rule of the contest was obeyed, 2 Timothy 2:5. The victor of a given event who participated according to the rules was led by the judge to the platform called the Bema. There the laurel wreath was placed on his head as a symbol of victory 1 Corinthians 9:24-25.

The Greek word translated “crown” is stephanos (the source for the name Stephen the martyr) and means “a badge of royalty, a prize in the public games or a symbol of honor generally.” Click on the blue headline ‘Five Crowns’ above for a description of each. Compiled from the work of Clarence Larkin, Jack Kinsella and Jack Kelley.

Haaretz:
“Demonstrations are held in more than ten cities across Israel in bid to lower housing prices; PM Netanyahu mulls tax breaks to quell the public protests.”

Opinion:
The protests are being played up by the left wing media as another Arab Spring. However, they began at 9:00 P.M. on Saturday and will end with concerts by several well-known Israeli performers. Do marches, rallies, and concerts sound like Egypt to you?

Jerusalem, Israel: “While traveling through Israel this month, I’ve been asked by many people if a Palestinian state inevitable, and will it happen this fall? It’s a controversial topic, to be sure, and an increasingly relevant one given the upcoming vote in the U.N. General Assembly this fall.”

Tension Rises as Islamists Dominate Tahrir Square

Associated Press:
Instead of chanting “The people want to topple the regime,” a slogan heard at protests across the Arab world this year, from Tahrir Square to Tunesia, demonstrators called out, “The people want to implement Sharia,” a strict code of Islamic law.

Opinion:
As the people move from secular to religious ideologies, Islamic groups like the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafists will impose strict rules, including Shariah law. The Copts, a Christian group of approx. 8 million, will be under more pressure and attack as these movements continue to grow.

Also, Islamic ideology will put pressure on the new government to terminate Egypt’s treaty with Israel, setting up for God’s judgment on the nation. Isaiah 19:1-4 ….”And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts.”

Wall Street Journal:
WASHINGTON—”The House on Friday approved a bill pushed by Speaker John Boehner to raise the government’s borrowing limit, a difficult victory for Republican leaders that came only after they added a requirement for a constitutional balanced-budget amendment to placate rebellious conservatives. The bill passed the House 218-210. A short while later, the Democratic-led Senate voted 59-41 to block the measure, setting the stage for last-ditch negotiations this weekend on a potential compromise that could win bipartisan support.”

Opinion:
The eyes of the world are watching the US. In our travels this week, the European TV stations are reporting on the US debt developments non-stop. Also, it was announced this morning that Spain was warned about a credit downgrade. Moody’s said the move was because of the Spanish government’s increasingly fragile financial position.
In addition to the potential downgrade, there are protests about the lack of jobs in the squares of Madrid. In the Puerta Del  Sol plaza, they have covered the statue of Carlos III with a banner proclaiming “Stop The New World Order.”
Biblical principles and personal responsibility are put aside as out-of-work parents struggle to support their families. How long can it be before the US is in the same position?

USA Today:
“Rep. David Wu could be eligible for pension and benefits worth more than $1 million in his lifetime, according to an analysis by the National Taxpayers Union.”"

Opinion:
Outrage if the Day!
Ronald Reagan once said ‘The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program.’  Who said that there was a debt problem ? Anthony Weiner is eligible for the same pension and for about the same amount.
