Radical Islamic movements throughout the world have long been funded and armed by Iran, which the United States has consistently described as “the most active state sponsor of terrorism.” Iranian government officials are not only publicly supporting the protests in Egypt; the Islamic Republic is taking credit for them. “The Revolution of the people of Tunisia and Egypt is modeled after Iran’s Islamic Revolution,” said Iranian Brigadier General Yahya Rahim-Safavi.
Definition of Appeasement:
Used by European democracies in the 1930s who wished to avoid war with the dictatorships of Germany and Italy, bearing in mind the horrors of the First World War. The term is most often applied to the foreign policy of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain towards Nazi Germany between 1937 and 1939.
The word “appeasement” has been used as a synonym for weakness and even cowardice since the 1930s, and it is still used in that sense to denounce policies and behaviors that conflict with firm, often armed, action in international relations.
Opinion:
Sanctions are another word for appeasement. Iran moves at will throughout the world. Just this week Iran is threatening to move their warships near the US coast. The Iranians laugh at sanctions while threatning to ‘wipe Israel off the map’ and denying that the Holocaust ever happened. The west continues to appease Iran by suggesting they don’t really mean it. In the case of stopping Hitler, it was almost too late. If Hitler had the use of nuclear technology is there any doubt that he would have used it?
Iran is an eerie reminder of Hitler and his aggression in so many ways. By most estimates, Iran is approximately 1 year away from a nuclear warhead. Is there any doubt that they will use it? They already have the capability to deliver them against our forces in the ME while scud missiles with nuclear devices launched from freighters are an ever growing threat. In our September 10 post ‘The next 9/11- A Nuclear One?’ The IBD editorial said ”Iran has long practiced launching Scuds from ships in the Caspian Sea and detonating them in midflight. It has also tested high-altitude explosions of its Shahab-3 ballistic missile, a test consistent with an EMP attack.”
Two important questions are: Why is the US appeasing Iran while it moves at will in the ME? And, is the US government foreign policy so politically correct that pandering to radical nations and terror groups has become the basis for our foreign policy? Our ally Israel needs an answer.
