JTA, Jewish News Service:
The Republican Jewish Coalition heralded the Republican Party platform’s Israel planks and endorsement of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The RJC also highlights the platform’s endorsement of separate states for the Israelis and Palestinians.
“We support Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state with secure, defensible borders; and we envision two democratic states — Israel with Jerusalem as its capital and Palestine — living in peace and security,” says the excerpt from the platform.
This is a difficult post to write in light of the powerful speech by the Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, last night. We have been quiet about heralding the Republicans, or posting opinion editorials praising the candidates, while we have been very vocal about our displeasure with the Obama administration. Here’s why:
Everybody it seems, Democrats, Republicans, the Quartet, the entire Muslim world, even the Israelis, are endorsing a two state solution. Everybody, it seems, except the creator of the Universe.
Notice how the article above says Israel with Jerusalem as its capital and Palestine — living in peace and security. So what happened to the capital of Palestine?
The answer is that Palestine’s capital will be in East Jerusalem, the site of the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism and the place where the prophet Ezekiel wrote “My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God, and they shall be My people. The nations also will know that I, the Lord, sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary (Temple) is in their midst forevermore” Ezekiel 37:27-28.
While Zechariah 14:2 tells us Jerusalem will be divided just before the return of Christ, the prophet Joel 3:1-2, leaves no doubt that God will bring judgment on those that divide His land.
God is sovereign and we will trust Him for the solution.
