The National Post: “A decade of war is now ending,” U.S. President Barack Obama declared Monday. Maybe that’s true in America, but it isn’t true anywhere else. Extremists are still plotting acts of terror. Authoritarian and autocratic regimes are still using violence to preserve their power. The United States can step back from international conflicts, but that won’t make them disappear.
Fortunately, there is another power that shares America’s economic and political values, that possesses sophisticated military technology and is also very interested in stopping the progress of fanatical movements, especially in North Africa and the Middle East. That power is Europe.
Opinion: The National Post provides a voice for Canadian conservatives. Founded in 1998 it was one of the few Canadian papers to offer unreserved support to Israel during its conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon during 2006 referring to Hezbollah as “cockroaches.”
That said, for students of Bible prophecy this headline serves as a reminder of the inerrancy of God’s word:
“Europe’s role in the last days is clearly defined. Daniel made it plain that final form of human government would be headquartered in Europe. Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar’s image of the two legs of iron and the ten toes of iron and clay as the fourth successive world empire. History identifies the first three as Babylon, Medo-Persia and Greek. The fourth, Rome, was the empire that Daniel interpreted as the two legs of iron.
The Roman Empire divided itself into two – the Western Empire at Rome and the Eastern Empire at Constantinople — in the years before it collapsed. Daniel said the ten toes of that image, partly strong and partly weak, like ’iron mixed with clay’ [Daniel 2:41] would be revived and would serve as the government of antichrist in the last days. Daniel also says that the platform on which the antichrist will come to power will be a peace deal – between Israel and the ‘many’. [Daniel 9:27]
The Bible recorded this information thousands of years ago. The same information is today’s headlines. There are those who scoff, call it coincidence and point out that, ‘people have been waiting for the last days forever, and it still hasn’t happened’ — as if that were somehow meaningful. As ridiculous as that line of reasoning is, it was also anticipated by Scripture for the last days.
“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” [2 Peter 3:3-4]” Omega Letter April 21, 2002.
