American Thinker: “Sounding indistinguishable from Noam Chomsky or Rev. Jeremiah Wright, former Sen. Chuck Hagel agreed in Al Jazeera that the United States is the world’ s bully and has depicted Israel as a cruel oppressor, yet appears to have little similar concern about the danger of a nuclear armed Iran.”

Opinion: That the future Secretary of Defense had an interview with Al Gore’s new TV partner Al Jazzeera is bad enough, but did you know that Al Jazeera  held a birthday party for the murderer of a 4 year old Israeli girl? Here is the story:

“It was July 18th, 2008, the birthday of Samir Kuntar, and so Al Jazeera naturally had a birthday celebration. Fortuitously, Kuntar had been released just two days earlier from a near three-decade spell in Israeli prison. As a young member of the Palestinian Liberation Front in 1979, Kuntar snuck across the Lebanese border and proceeded to kill an Israeli policeman, 31-year-old Danny Haran, and Haran’s 4-year-old daughter, Einat. The last he killed by bashing a rock against her skull. Kuntar was also convicted by an Israeli court of indirectly killing Einat’s two-year-old sister Yael, who died of suffocation as her mother tried to silence her cries.” Haaretz Jan 13, 2013

With leaders like Chuck, what could go wrong?

Joel Rosenberg: “What will be next? As the implosion of Syria continues unabated, Israeli officials are increasingly worried that weapons of mass destruction positioned on Syrian soil will be used against the Jewish state. Or that they will fall into the hands of anti-Israeli forces. Or be handed over to anti-Israeli forces. Prime Minister Netanyahu and the IDF top brass are also deeply concerned about Iran’s efforts to use the chaos in Syria to divert international attention away from stopping Tehran’s nuclear weapons program.”

Opinion: I once asked a Bible prophecy study group two questions. If Isaiah 17:1, 14 happens in our lifetime, how many of us will share this prophecy with others? And will anyone who doesn’t know the Bible finally begin to pay attention to Bible prophecy?

Investors Business Daily Op-Ed: “The economy shrank last quarter, the deficit topped $1 trillion last year, U.S. debt shot up $5 trillion in the past four, and joblessness is at 7.8%. Boy,  President Obama sure inherited an economic mess, didn’t he?

Wall Street Journal: “U.S. economic momentum screeched to a halt in the final months of 2012, as lawmakers’ struggle to reach a deal on tax increases and budget cuts likely led businesses to pare inventories and the government to cut spending.

The nation’s gross domestic product shrank for the first time in 3 1/2 years during the fourth quarter, declining at an annual rate of 0.1% between October and December, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

Opinion: “We don’t have a spending problem,” President Obama said the day after the election, so I’m guessing that the adminstration will say that what this economy needs is more stimulus …. translation, more debt.

One more quarter of negative growth means that our nation has sunk into another recession. Who will the president blame this time?

NewsMax: “Israeli jets bombed a convoy near Syria’s border with Lebanon early on Wednesday, sources told Reuters, apparently targeting weapons destined for Hezbollah in what some called a warning to Damascus not to arm Israel’s Lebanese enemy.”

Opinion: Asked whether the US might use force in Syria, outgoing Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said this: “You know, our goal would be to seek international permission. And we would come to the Congress and inform you and determine how best to approach this, whether or not we would want to get permission from the Congress.”

That type of comment from a government official would have once been met with calls for impeachment, but in the new world order it barely makes news. Israel now clearly sees where it stands … alone (Numbers 23:9).

If Bashar Assad were to pass chemical weapons or sophisticated anti-aircraft missiles to Hezbollah, the prophecy of Isaiah 17:1, and Isaiah 17:14, the destruction of Damascus in one night could follow quickly.

SANTIAGO, Chile — “A magnitude-6.8 earthquake shook offices, toppled supermarket shelves and broke windows on Wednesday in north-central Chile, where people fled some buildings in panic.

A 50-year-old woman in the city of Copiapo died of a heart attack, said Atacama Regional Governor Rafael Prohens, who attributed her death to fear during the quake. Authorities said that damage was limited and discounted the possibility of a tsunami.”

The National Post: “A decade of war is now ending,” U.S. President Barack Obama declared Monday. Maybe that’s true in America, but it isn’t true anywhere else. Extremists are still plotting acts of terror. Authoritarian and autocratic regimes are still using violence to preserve their power. The United States can step back from international conflicts, but that won’t make them disappear.

Fortunately, there is another power that shares America’s economic and political values, that possesses sophisticated military technology and is also very interested in stopping the progress of fanatical movements, especially in North Africa and the Middle East. That power is Europe.

Opinion: The National Post provides a voice for Canadian conservatives. Founded in 1998 it was one of the few Canadian papers to offer unreserved support to Israel during its conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon during 2006 referring to  Hezbollah as “cockroaches.”

That said, for students of Bible prophecy this headline serves as a reminder of the inerrancy of God’s word:

“Europe’s role in the last days is clearly defined. Daniel made it plain that final form of human government would be headquartered in Europe. Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar’s image of the two legs of iron and the ten toes of iron and clay as the fourth successive world empire. History identifies the first three as Babylon, Medo-Persia and Greek. The fourth, Rome, was the empire that Daniel interpreted as the two legs of iron.

The Roman Empire divided itself into two – the Western Empire at Rome and the Eastern Empire at Constantinople — in the years before it collapsed. Daniel said the ten toes of that image, partly strong and partly weak, like ’iron mixed with clay’ [Daniel 2:41] would be revived and would serve as the government of antichrist in the last days. Daniel also says that the platform on which the antichrist will come to power will be a peace deal – between Israel and the ‘many’. [Daniel 9:27]

The Bible recorded this information thousands of years ago. The same information is today’s headlines. There are those who scoff, call it coincidence and point out that, ‘people have been waiting for the last days forever, and it still hasn’t happened’ — as if that were somehow meaningful. As ridiculous as that line of reasoning is, it was also anticipated by Scripture for the last days.

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” [2 Peter 3:3-4]”  Omega Letter April 21, 2002.
