JPost: In an appeal for religious tolerance and unity against a scourge of radicalization, US President Donald Trump has chosen to travel to Riyadh, Jerusalem and Rome on his first presidential trip, senior administration officials confirmed on Thursday.

The trip, starting on May 19, will mark the beginning of a new initiative by the Trump administration to forge a coalition against religious extremism. “These are not going to be the traditional state visits like you’ve seen– these are really working visits,” one official said. more …

Opinion: Ok, that does it. I am confused.

The Saudi trip is obvious in that it lines up perfectly with the president’s new deal to try to make peace in the Middle East.

We have several posts (here – here) that the Gulf States, led by Saudi Arabia, are offering some sort of reconciliation with Israel in exchange for a US commitment to provide security against Iran.

The president said this: “We will begin to construct a new foundation of cooperation and support with our Muslim allies to combat extremism, terrorism and violence, and to embrace a more just and hopeful future for young Muslims in their countries,” he continued.

But there is no way to square moving the US embassy to Jerusalem and a peace deal between Sunni Arab states and Israel.

It may be possible to get better clarity when the White House releases the president’s itinerary, since earlier indications had the president in Israel for the Jerusalem Day celebration on May 23, which was thought to be the day he would announce the embassy move.

Like I said …
