Rich Venezuelans eat sushi, guzzle cocktails amid chaos

Yahoo: While most Venezuelans struggle to buy food and make ends meet, a small group still manages to eat sushi and sip cocktails in exclusive discos and country clubs.

The country may be stricken by poverty and political violence, but a rich minority acts like they are untouched by the crisis.

Case in point: Caracas, one of the world’s most violent cities, is the first in South America to open a branch of the trendy Buddha Bar international nightclub chain. In a country where basics such as flour and sugar are in short supply, Buddha Bar guests can order tuna steak, pork ribs or fish tacos — as long as they have dollars to pay. more …

Opinion: If it seems odd to associate having a good time and being in Venezuela, keep in mind that the same thing happens 90 miles off the coast of Miami.

In Cuba, friends and family (and their descendants) of those who were with Fidel in the Sierra Maestra mountains are called special people.

There is only the good life for special people. The best homes, medical care, travel, and food while regular citizens are under strict rationing known as the Libreta de Abastecimiento (“Supplies booklet”). The system establishes the rations each person is allowed to buy through that system, and the frequency of supplies.

Meat products (when available) are distributed every 15 days, and usually rotate (that is, the product type changes on each delivery). Fish, beef, ground beef (usually mixed with soy), chicken, sausages and ham fall in this category.

Typical rationing for meat products (beef, ½ lb/person each 15 days – chicken is 1 lb/person every 15 days).

And that is precisely how the Apostle John describes the Rider on the Black Horse in Revelation 6:5-6. One day’s wages buys one day’s food, while the rich, identified by the oil and wine, remain untouched until the end of the 7th seal judgment when it is all taken away:

And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb.” Revelation 6:15-16
