Why Is Nobody Talking About The Union For The Mediterranean?

Gatestone Institute: In July, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Most Europeans, however, are unlikely to have heard about the Union, let alone the anniversary. The media rarely reports on the UfM and its activities.

The participating countries in the UfM are the 28 European Union (EU) member states and the Southern Mediterranean countries, which include Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, “Palestine”, Syria (temporarily suspended), Tunisia and Turkey. Libya has observer status in the UfM. The UfM is chaired by a “co-presidency” shared between the European Union and Jordan. The UfM Secretariat maintains the daily operations of the UfM and is run by a Secretary General, presently Nasser Kamel (Egypt).

The UfM was launched by a decision of the UfM Heads of State and Government in Paris in July 2008, and constitutes an institutionalization of the Barcelona Process, which began in November 1995 with the signing of the Barcelona Declaration. more …

Opinion: Excerpt from our post January 25, 2014:

“The EU currently stands at 28 member states. It would either have to grow substantially or merge with other partnerships to become the global platform for the final dictator of revived Rome.

The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) might fit the bill perfectly. The UfM is a multilateral partnership of 43 countries: the 28 members of the European Union and 15 Mediterranean partners.

Since the number 70 has tremendous prophetic significance (see below), I have often wondered if the size of the final Roman Empire would be 70 nations. Let me explain:

We know from Daniel 9:26 that anti-Christ will come from somewhere in the boundaries of the Roman Empire. If Daniel’s 4th Beast, global government, is to have the same footprint as ancient Rome, it would have to continue to grow and include Israel and many of her very hostile neighbors, i.e., Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, etc.

The Arab nations would never consent to being in the same federation with Israel, unless a major war between them settles the current turmoil and results in Israel living in peace and safety with her neighbors. Prophetically, that does not happen until the war of Psalm 83 is completed and just prior to Ezekiel 38-39.

Like ancient Rome, an empire comprised of 70 strong and weak nations (Daniel 2:33-34) would become unwieldy and necessarily split into  regions. Daniel 7:24 says that there will be 10 kings, or regions, and anti-Christ will arise out of an eleventh.”

What’s happened since then? Possibly enough turmoil to force a break-up of the current EU into a global platform like the UfM.
