Echoing National Security Advisor John Bolton’s announcement last month that American troops would remain in Syria “as long as Iranian troops are outside Iranian borders,” Pompeo blasted Iranian leadership, remarking on their label as the world’s leading state sponsor of terror.
“President Obama thought if he made dangerous concessions, removed economic sanctions and flew a plane full of cash to Tehran, he could somehow hug Iran’s leaders into behaving well and rejoining the community of nations,” Pompeo told the Jewish Institute for National Security of America.
“But those leaders aren’t from a Disney movie,” he continued. “They’re real. They’re not tragically misunderstood. They are murderers and funders of terrorism who lead chants — today, still — of ‘Death to America.’ Their goals include profiting off the misery of their own people and wiping Israel off the face of the Earth.” more …
Opinion: Iran has been trying to wipe Israel off the map for a very long time.
The scene: The 4th century BC in the time of a Jewish heroine named Esther, her uncle Mordecai, a descendant of Amalek named Haman, and a Persian king named Ahasuerus (Xerxes).
Haman’s hatred for Mordecai was so intense that he devised a plan to kill all the Jews of Persia (modern day Iran). God had a better plan. God provided a young Jewish woman to become queen. Esther petitioned the king to allow the Jews to defend themselves and Haman’s plan was thwarted. The Jews preempted the attack of the Persian army and defeated them in a military strategy that also came in handy some 2400 years later in the Six Day War of 1967.
For such a time as this (Esther 4:14).
Bible prophecy tells us that just before the tribulation it will happen again. A massive army led by Russia, whom Ezekiel 38:1-2 calls Gog, will bring Iran (Persia) Turkey (Gomer) and at least 4 north African nations (Ezekiel 38:3-6 NIV) against Israel to take her wealth (Ezekiel 38:12) and end the Jewish state once and for all.
This time there will no heroine, but God Himself (Ezekiel 38:21-23)
“I will call for a sword against Gog throughout all My mountains,” says the Lord God. “Every man’s sword will be against his brother. 22 And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. 23 Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”
