The killing of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader
3500 years ago the Jewish people were attacked for the first time by Amalek, a generational enemy (Exodus 17:16) of God’s covenant people. In remembrance of that attack, God instructed His people to keep this as a day of remembrance.

“Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you came out of Egypt, 18 how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and cut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God. 19 Therefore when the Lord your God has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.” Deuteronomy 25:17-19
The day of remembrance of Amalek’s violence is called Shabbat Zachor in Hebrew, and is celebrated on the Sabbath just before the feast of Purim.
Purim, which in 2026 falls on March 2, acknowledges the Jews’ victory over the Persian (Iranian) army 2400 years ago.
In 2026, Shabbat (Hebrew, rest) Zachor (Hebrew, remember) began at sundown February 27 and ended at sundown February 28.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28.
