Such work can now proceed, said Dr. Francis S. Collins, the head of the National Institutes of Health, but only if a scientific panel decides that the benefits justify the risks.
Some scientists are eager to pursue these studies because they may show, for example, how a bird flu could mutate to more easily infect humans, or could yield clues to making a better vaccine.
Critics say these researchers risk creating a monster germ that could escape the lab and seed a pandemic. more …
Opinion: “When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him …”
When the events of the book of Revelation are read chronologically, a clear picture emerges as to the role of the church, followed by three sets of judgments on a Christ-rejecting world:
- The church is told it will be kept out of the judgments to come: Rev. 3:10
- The rapture is symbolized by John being called up to Christ: Rev. 4:1
The first set of judgments begin in chapter 6. The first four Seal Judgments are symbolized by 4 horsemen:
- The first judgment is a false Christ on a white horse: Rev. 6:1-2
- The second judgment is war symbolized by a red horse: Rev 6:3-4
- The third judgment is economic collapse symbolized by a black horse: Rev. 6:5-6
- The fourth judgment is death from disease symbolized by a pale horse: Rev. 6:7-8
Estimates of deaths from the Seal judgments are based on Rev. 6:8, the assumption that 1/4 of the world’s population will die. Death and Hades are given power over 1/4th of the earth to kill by the sword, famine, plague, and wild beasts.
Possible order of end time events in Scripture:
Rapture of the Church and Bema Seat Judgment (1 Thess. 4:13-18; 1 Cor. 15:51-58; 2 Cor. 3:11-15)
The diaspora is complete and the last of the Jews return to the land “not leaving any behind” (Ezek. 39:28)
The Tribulation/Day of the Lord Begins: (Jeremiah 30:7; Rev. 6:1-3)
Revival of the Roman Empire, 10 nation confederacy formed. (Dan. 7: 24; Rev. 13:1, 17:3)
Rise of Antichrist, (11th king Dan. 7:8, 24; Rev. 13:1-8)
Temple is built (Dan. 9:27; Mat. 24:15; II Thess. 2:4, and Rev. 11:1)
Forty-two months (3.5 years) into the tribulation the peace treaty with Israel is broken. Antichrist enters the Holy of Holies and declares himself to be God, Abomination of Desolation, beginning the Great Tribulation (Dan 7:23; 2 Thess. 2:4; Matt. 24:21)
Antichrist sets up government of revived Roman Empire, world economic system, and world religion (Dan. 7:24; Rev. 13:5-8, 15-17, 17:16-17).
Christians and Jews who refuse the mark of the beast are martyred, no one may buy or sell without the mark (Rev. 7:9-17, 13:15-16)
Catastrophic divine judgments represented by 7 seals (Rev. 6:1-17) 7 trumpets (Rev. 8:1-13) and 7 bowls (Rev. 16:1-21) poured out on the earth.
There is an amazingly simple way to avoid the judgments of Revelation. In Acts 16:30-31, a Roman jailer asked Paul and Silas the most important question ever asked: “What must I do to be saved?”
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
