After a war on leaks, Obama makes a U-turn, commutes Chelsea Manning’s sentence

McClatchy Report: “With barely 72 hours left in office, President Barack Obama Tuesday did an abrupt U-turn on his years-long assault on government leaks and showed leniency toward two military figures who’d helped make public highly sensitive secrets.

Both Democrats and Republicans said they were bewildered – even angered – by Obama’s commutation of the 35-year prison term of Chelsea Manning, the former Army intelligence specialist who turned over some 700,000 classified and sensitive diplomatic documents to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks.”

Opinion: The Russians Are Coming was a 1996 comedy of a Russian submarine that ran aground off Cape Cod, which had a significant number of summer visitors. Rather than radio for help and risk an embarrassing international incident, the captain sends a nine-man landing party, headed by Political Officer Lieutenant Yuri Rozanov (Alan Arkin), to find a motor launch to help free the submarine from the bar.

It was a silly B movie and made about as much sense as the latest pardon. Obama now condones what he has been making an uproar about since the election; hacking – and specifically – Russian hacking.

One can’t help but wonder how much of this is pandering to the LGBT community?

But then again, national security under this president has been a façade. Since 2009 Obama’s former Secretary of State ran multiple, private, unsecured internet servers as the nation’s top Diplomat.

A hacker’s dream.

In 2015, CBS’ Bill Plante (CBS News) asked Obama when he learned about Clinton’s private server, and Obama answered: “The same time everybody else learned it – through news reports.”

Documents later released by the FBI  showed that Obama used a pseudonym in emails to Clinton — emails sent to the address on her private server.

Next up for pardon: Hillary Clinton, the ultimate leaker.
