Guardian: The prime minister, Scott Morrison, said the government will also recognise a future state of Palestine with its capital in East Jerusalem after a settlement has been reached on a two-state solution.

The foreign policy shift on West Jerusalem was announced by Morrison during his speech to the Sydney Institute on Saturday.

The opposition leader, Bill Shorten, said the government’s decision was a “humiliating backdown” from a rushed byelection announcement and accused the prime minister of putting “his political interest ahead of our national interest”. His comments were echoed by Labor’s foreign affairs spokeswoman, Penny Wong, who described it as a “reckless move” and said Morrison was trying to save face. more …

Opinion: Here is what Israeli leaders say:

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein (Likud) called the Australian statement “difficult to understand… all of Jerusalem is our eternal capital, not just a part of it.”

Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis (Likud) added that “all of Jerusalem has been our capital for the past 3,000 years.”

Jerusalem was declared the capital of Israel in 1048 BC by King David. God said the Messiah would come through David’s lineage (Psalm 132:11), and Jerusalem is where He would set up His throne (Jer. 3:17; Rev. 20:1-2). This makes Jerusalem and the Jewish people, who are the rightful heirs, the primary target of Satan.

Jerusalem is the ‘earth’s richness‘, traded away by Esau for a bowl of stew (Genesis 25:29-34), but originally promised to Jacob (Gen. 25:23; Gen. 27:28-29).

East Jerusalem is where two Jewish temples once stood and where a third temple will stand, possibly in the very near future, and yet the only thing Australian leaders can agree on is a two-state solution that will bring judgment on their country for dividing God’s land (Joel 3:1-2).

  1. I commented many months ago that the two state solution might involve the “novel” idea of giving E Jerusalem to the “Palestinians” and allowing Israel to “keep” W Jerusalem. The uninformed secular onlooker would cheer such a move. But as you have noted, the temple mount is in eastern portion – along with Mt Moriah and the City of David. Satan would love this move. Can we say “peace and security” then sudden destruction comes upon them? Watch for this move to gain traction with the biblically illiterate world – I may be wrong.

    • I think you may be right, there has been some talk along those lines in Donald Trump’ ‘deal of the century’ that appears to be postponed until February 2019.
