Christian Charity World Vision Sent US Tax Money To Group That Backed Osama bin Laden

WND: A Senate investigation found that the evangelical Christian aid organization World Vision funneled U.S. taxpayer money to an Islamic group in Sudan that had supported Osama bin Laden and was under Treasury Department sanctions.

The report from the Oversight and Investigations Unit of the Finance Committee delivered to Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said the panel didn’t find evidence that World Vision was aware of the sanctions when it partnered with the Islamic Relief Agency.  Read More …

World Vision

Opinion: Was World Vision aware? Let’s look at some past history.

World Vision defines itself as an International Evangelical Christian humanitarian aid, development, and advocacy organization. It prefers to present itself as interdenominational and also employs staff from non-evangelical Christian denominations.

Problem #1  (From the article)

“based on the evidence presented, we conclude that World Vision had access to the appropriate public information and should have known how, but failed to, properly vet ISRA as a sub-grantee, resulting in the transfer of U.S. taxpayer dollars to an organization with an extensive history of supporting terrorist organization and terrorists, including Osama Bin Laden,” the committee said in a memo to Grassley.”

Problem #2  The Obama administration knowingly funded World Vision for humanitarian relief in Sudan. World Vision’s partner was ISRA, the Islamic Relief Organization, a US government designated terror organization.

Problem #3

On August 16, 2016 a scandal broke about World Vision (here):

The manager of the Gaza branch of World Vision has been arrested by Israeli law enforcement and charged with funneling about $43 million to the Islamist militant group Hamas. The manager, Mohammad El Halabi, is also accused of having specifically infiltrated World Vision for the purpose of reaching an influential position from which he could provide funds and resources for Hamas militants. • World Vision along with USAID were funding ISRA in 2014-15
  • USAID did not identify ISRA as an organization that was subject to US sanctions
  • Obama administration decided in May 2015 to fund ISRA anyway

Problem #4

In the 2014 Hamas war, Protective Edge, World Vision ignored the fact that Hamas started the war and preached moral equivalence prolonging the war …

World Vision Calls for an End to the Escalating Violence Towards Israeli and Palestinian Children

The ongoing occupation and conflict has robbed generations of Palestinian and Israeli children of peace, justice, and hope for a future where fullness of life is possible. World Vision believes the Government of Israel, and the Palestinian Unity Government must ensure the legitimate security concerns of both Israelis and Palestinians.

Problem #5

Trump’s State Department no longer calls West Bank ‘occupied’ in annual report

In first, document on human rights abuses refers simply to ‘Israel, Golan Heights, West Bank and Gaza,’ with no comment on the status of the territories

Problem #6

In all likelihood Joe Biden will become the next president of the United States, and anti-Semitic organizations like World Vision will be a problem … again.
