Christians Stand Up Against Anti-Israel Bias at 223rd PCUSA

BIN: In the context of multiple anti-Israel resolutions and threats made during the Presbyterian Church USA General Assembly (PCUSA GA) in St. Louis Missouri from June 16-23, a coalition of Jews from StandWithUs, a Palestinian-Muslim human rights pioneer and pro-peace group Presbyterians for Middle East Peace stood up against the institutional bias and threats within the 223rd General Assembly.

Nearly all of the 13 resolutions considered by the Middle East committee were anti-Israel in nature and none held the Palestinian Authority accountable for harming Israelis and Palestinians alike. In the same vein, a resolution condemning the Hamas terrorist group for inciting children to violence was turned down.

A grassroots group of Presbyterian lay and clergy volunteers, Presbyterians for Middle East Peace – a group committed to a two state solution that opposes the BDS movement and is steered by Rev. Dr. Bill Harter, Rev. Dr. John Wimberly and Ruling Elder George Douglas – pushed back against anti-Israel extremists within the General Assembly. more …

Opinion: A glimmer of hope for PCUSA.

The anti-Israel/pro-Palestinian denomination bought into replacement theology that began in the early Catholic church influenced by the Archbishop of Constantinople and Augustine in the 4th and 5th centuries AD.

REPLACEMENT THEOLOGY/ SUPERSESSIONISM: A system of theology that essentially teaches that the church has replaced Israel in God’s plan. Adherents of replacement theology believe the Jews are no longer God’s chosen people, and God does not have specific future plans for the nation of Israel.

PCUSA has a lot of company:

“Replacement Theology may be either Amillennial or Postmillennial. It is currently the most widely held belief in Catholic teaching as well as the World Council of Churches, the Presbyterian Church USA, the Methodist Church, the Lutheran Church (ELCA), the Anglican Church and the United Church of Christ.” Excerpt: Bible Prophecy 101 Chapter 3 here

That Rev. Dr. Bill Harter, Rev. Dr. John Wimberly and Ruling Elder George Douglas formed a group to oppose this insidious hatred of God’s chosen, could only come from the Holy Spirit.

God speed …
