Countdown begins to Putin-Erdogan-Rouhani talks

Al Monitor: Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to travel to Turkey Tuesday for a two-day visit that will showcase warming ties between the two historical foes.

The Russian leader will join his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in the southern province of Mersin to inaugurate Turkey’s first nuclear power plant, Akkuyu. It is being built by Russia’s state Atomic Energy Agency, ROSATOM. A first reactor is slated for completion in 2023, marking the centennial of the modern republic founded by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

The pair will then move on to Ankara for bilateral talks. And on Wednesday they will be joined by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in the Turkish capital, Ankara, for a further round of negotiations to end the seven-year conflict in Syria based on the so-called Astana model devised in May 2017. It calls for a de-escalation of hostilities, the deployment of peace monitors in designated zones and though it’s not formally articulated, the reconsolidation of regime control over them. more

Opinion: Baloney. The talks are about dividing up Syria, especially now that President Trump has announced his plans to leave that war-torn country.

For Bible prophecy students this meeting is a bone-chilling preview of Ezekiel 38:1-6 NIV:

“The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, set your face against Gog of the land of Magog (Russia) the chief prince of Meshek and Tubal (ancient names for Turkey); prophesy against him and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshek and Tubal. I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army—your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. Persia (Iran), Cush and Put (North Africa) will be with them, all with shields and helmets, also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah (more ancient names for Turkey) from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.”

What is particularly fascinating is that the northern assault of the Gog Magog attack comes from the mountains (Ezekiel 39:2), making the Golan Heights, which separates Syria and Israel, the most likely candidate.

Russia, Iran and Turkey are already in the area.

The next two days may offer clues to the timing of the war of Gog and Magog …

  1. This meeting, I am sure, will be of vital importance to the attendees. However, Magog, Meshech and Tubal are all well within the borders of Russia and Georgia according to multiple official World and Bible Atlases. Some preachers (many of whom admit to having very little, if any, geographical or historical knowledge in this area) claim that they are mixed between Russia and Turkey. However, that is inaccurate.

    • Some prophecy teachers place Gomer in Germany but it is more likely that the Turkish people descended from Togarmah, who was a son of Gomer’s but didn’t follow him into what is now Europe. Gomer’s brothers Meshech and Tubal are linked to Cappodocia and complete the reference to modern Turkey. The placement of Ezekiel’s nations is an ongoing debate.
