The Hope of Christmas

Isaiah 9:6

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Hope is a confident expectation of what is to come based in the character and promises of God.

From the beginning, God had a plan to save us from our sins, Genesis 3:15. He promised a Savior who would be born of a virgin.  Throughout the Old Testament there are hundreds of promises that the Messiah would “save His people from their sins.” Aware of the promised Redeemer, they were saved by faith in that Savior, and this belief had to be demonstrated by obedience to the Law.

The Savior would be descended from the line of Abraham and King David.

Luke 2:10–11 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

In the Church age, we look back on the life, death, and resurrection of the Savior and are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ’s atonement for our sins.
