‘IDF preparing for scenario in which hundreds of terrorists from Sinai attack’

JPost: “This week Col. Yehuda HaCohen will be wrapping up his service as commander of the Sagi Brigade. HaCohen worked for the last two years to prepare the brigade for scenarios that the IDF had never even thought of before.

The Sagi Brigade sits on a 170 kilometer stretch watching over the Israeli-Sinai border. Under the Red Division, positioned in the Southern command, the brigade is responsible for watching over the western Negev.

For the past two years the division has seen a new threat coming from the Sinai, the global terrorist organization Islamic State, which has turned the area into a complex security challenge.

naiaOpinion: The Amalekites were a people of the Negev and adjoining desert (Sinai) that were a hereditary enemy of Israel from wilderness times to the early monarchy. Amalek, a son of Esau’s son Eliphaz, was presumably the eponymous ancestor of the Amalekites. (Jewish Virtual Library).

Amalek was the first enemy the Israelites faced after they crossed the Red Sea. The people complained to Moses as the Egyptian army approached “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? Why did you make us leave?” (Exodus 14:11)

The people lost faith in the same God that saved their first-born in the tenth plague and freed them from 400 years of slavery.

So God brought an enemy to punish His chosen. A fierce and ruthless man who traveled over 900 miles to be the first to draw Israelite blood. The first terrorist.

That blood line that has its root in Esau, whom God called Edom, is the only one that God swore to have war with in every generation (Exodus 17:16).

Psalm 83:6-8 lists Amalek and Edom as members of an alliance to attack Israel in the last days.

Amalek today is the Sinai – Edom today is the West Bank.
