Opinion: The prophetic clock began ticking with the rebirth of Israel 69 years ago:

“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.  Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” Matthew 24:32-35

Like the eagle is the symbol for the United States, the lion is the symbol for Britain, the fig tree is the symbol for Israel.

The fig tree bloomed on May 14, 1948 in fulfillment of Isaiah 66:7-8 and those two words, this generation, have been misunderstood for two thousand years.

The generation that witnessed the blooming of the fig tree was on earth in 1948, hence the boomers. The Psalmist says that a generation is 70 years and with strength 80, making the math quite simple.

Before He would return, however, Jesus spoke of the great tribulation in Matthew 24:15-16:

“Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.”

That event was prophesied in Daniel 9:27 more than 500 years before Christ and has not happened yet.

Jesus was speaking to those in Judea, the Jews, who were instructed to flee to the mountains where they would be safe from Antichrist. That those same mountains were the ancestral home of Esau with soaring cliffs and thousands of caves serves to heighten the prophecy.

The anti-Semitism that is rising all over the world is further proof of the lateness of the hour. The Jews started making their way home in 1881. The horrors of the Holocaust turbo-charged the movement, the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 brought over 3 million more back to the land and the returning Ethiopian Jews fulfill Zephaniah 3:1-10.

And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, And come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, And sorrow and sighing shall flee away. Isaiah 35:10
