Mattis Will Back Ukraine on Crimea

Tru News: Tensions with Russia will get ratcheted up this week when Secretary of Defense will travel to Ukraine to deliver a message on behalf of President Donald Trump: the U.S. still backs Ukraine’s claim to Crimea.

Currently, Mattis is traveling to Jordan and Turkey, where he is likely to brief those key allies in the fight against ISIS on U.S. plans in Syria and Afghanistan. After those visits, he will travel to Kyiv, where he will meet with President Petro Poroshenko.

According to U.S. government officials, during those visits, Mattis is expected to express the Trump administration’s position that Crimea remains Ukraine territory that has been illegally annexed by Russia. The key phrase he will use will likely resemble:

The U.S. remains firmly committed to the goal of restoring Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. more …

Opinion: On February 15, 2017 YNet News reported that President Trump called on Moscow to relinquish control of the Black Sea peninsula Crimea, to which Russia responded:

“We don’t give back our own territory. Crimea is territory belonging to the Russian Federation,” Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, told a news briefing.

Evidently, Mr. Trump was not making an idle demand, and that is where prophecy comes into the story. Long time readers will remember our many posts on the breaking up of Ukraine.

Our post March 26, 2014:

“The only Biblical solution is to divide Ukraine, let’s review: The western half (of Ukraine) was part of the Assyrian Empire that dominated the known world in three stages from 2500 to 600 BC. Later, the Roman Empire under Hadrian (117-138 AD) was in control of the western part of Ukraine.”

If Daniel’s 4th Beast, global government (Daniel 7:23-24), is to have the same or bigger European footprint as ancient Rome, those nations that were once under Roman control will have to reunify to complete the prophecy. And Crimea was a Roman outpost during the period of 47 BC to 340 AD.

When I wrote that opinion, I was perplexed as to how Putin would ever let go of Crimea. It is Russia’s only warm water port (where the water does not freeze in winter) in the Black sea, giving the Russian navy a critical lifeline to defend Russian territory.

Enter Donald J.Trump, whom God is using to shake the nations, Haggai 2:6-7.

This should be fascinating to watch.
