Obama says ‘we shall not repeat the evil’ at site of Hiroshima nuclear bombing

Breitbart: HIROSHIMA, Japan, May 26 (UPI) — President Barack Obama traveled to Hiroshima, Japan, on Friday, marking the first time a U.S. president has visited the site of the world’s first nuclear attack, carried out more than 70 years ago.

Obama arrived in Hiroshima Friday afternoon and along with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, laid a wreath at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial — a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was built in 1915. Thirty years later, it was nearly decimated by the atomic bomb dropped by the United States. The structure, in fact, was the only one left standing near the bomb’s hypocenter.

Opinion: I wonder if it occurred to our president that the evil to which he is referring would not have happened if the Japanese had not pulled a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor that took the lives of 3581 Americans, including 2403 military personnel.

Or, if the president remembers the atrocities the Japanese army inflicted on POWs during WWII on American soldiers reminiscent of the Third Reich?

  • The Bataan Death March: 5,000-11,000 American and Filipino prisoners perished when forced to an arduous  65-mile march to prison camps with no food or water.
  • The Rape of Nanking: Soldiers of the Imperial Japanese Army murdered Chinese civilians and disarmed combatants numbering an estimated 40,000 to over 300,000, and perpetrated widespread rape and looting.
  • Cannibalism: In the 1990s, documents were uncovered that described widespread cannibalism by Japanese troops and including the removal of their organs while prisoners were still alive, without anesthesia.

The president’s words “Let all the souls here rest in peace, for we shall not repeat the evil” are especially hollow in light of the Iran Nuclear deal that puts the world’s largest sponsor of terror on a fast-track towards a nuclear weapon. In recent missile tests, Iran fired two test missiles bearing the phrase ‘Israel Must Be Wiped Out’ in Hebrew.
