Joel Rosenberg: “After initially refusing to make time to meet with America’s most faithful Sunni Muslim Arab ally in the hot war against ISIS, President Obama changed his mind and decided to make time after all.
For five minutes.
Yes, you read that right — five minutes.
“This stunning decision by Mr. Obama to snub the King of Jordan is as nonsensical as it is offensive. Jordan is in a hot war with the Islamic State. The King, a Muslim — indeed a descendent of Muhammad — is doing a heroic job confronting this barbaric enemy. How in the world could the President not make time to meet with him, listen to his perspective, and talk about how to work even more closely together?”
Opinion: Since Jordan’s king has maintained a stable relationship with Israel, I often wondered how or what would make that relationship turn. What would make Jordan’s king hostile enough to join a 10 nation alliance in a war prophesied 3000 years ago by the temple priest?
Jordan is prophesied three times in Psalm 83:6-7.
- The tents of Edom – (Edom is Esau Gen 36:1) originally Mt. Seir (southern Jordan) until the 6th century BC when Esau’s descendants were forced to change locations by a Nabatean tribe. Edom today is represented by the Palestinians of the West Bank.
- Moab and Ammon – Palestinians of central and northern Jordan also called the children of Lot (Gen. 19:30-38)
Now, it is coming into focus.
After the horrific burning of a Jordanian pilot on February 3, 2015 King Abdullah ordered massive air attacks on ISIS strongholds in Syria that received only verbal support from the US president.
Then on February 5, 2015 according to a report from the Washington Times, the Obama administration turned down a request from Jordan for Predator spy drones that would help it locate targets in the war against the Islamic State.
So now we have an insult and injury.
If King Abdullah’s government were to fall, Jordan’s relationship with Israel would fall as well.
ISIS has made no secret of its intention to expand its caliphate to Jordan, and at this point it is hard to imagine who or what will stop them.
