Rabbi: “UN is Replacement Theology on Steroids”

Breaking Israel News: The United Nations has played a leading role in rewriting history as part of its anti-Israel agenda. A recent editorial in Christian media compared this to replacement theology and one rabbi agreed, noting that pro-Palestinian forces have taken this hated doctrine further than the Church ever had.

Brandon Shirkey wrote an opinion article in Charisma News titled “Is This Theology a Serious Threat to God’s People?” In the article, Shirkey compared the United Nations treatment of Israel to replacement theology.

“The United Nations has seemingly turned a blind eye to the truth of this conflict by absurdly defending the aggressor and condemning the victim,” Shirkey wrote. more …

When all the nations of the earth gather against her. In that day, I will make Yerushalayim a stone for all the peoples to lift; all who lift it shall injure themselves.” Zechariah 12:3 (The Israel Bible™)

Opinion: In many churches you won’t hear the words replacement theology, it hides just beneath the surface: in the plight of the Palestinian, moral equivalence of violence, and the word ‘occupation’.

For too many centuries, replacement theology has caused Christian denominations to consider the Jewish person accursed by God. It began with the early church, was rubber stamped by Augustine and made ugly under Chrysostom.

St. Augustine of Hippo (354–430): For the new Church the continuing existence of the Jews demanded explanation. If the Jews exist it must be part of God’s plan, but how to understand that plan? Augustine attempted to provide these answers in his City of God.

According to Augustine:

“Judaism, since Christ, is a corruption; indeed, Judas is the image of the Jewish people: their understanding of Scripture is carnal; they bear the guilt for the death of the Savior, for through their fathers they have killed Christ.”

According to John Chrysostom:

Chrysostom held Jews responsible for the crucifixion of Jesus and deicide (killing God) and added the synagogue is a place worse than a brothel and a drinking shop; it was a den of scoundrels, the repair of wild beasts, a temple of demons, the refuge of brigands and debauchees, and the cavern of devils, a criminal assembly of the assassins of Christ.

In the 7th century, Muhammad was busy trying to spread his new religion to the Jews of Saudi Arabia. After being rejected he lamented on his death bed that many were still alive.

By the 16th century, Christian anti-Semitism had so permeated the church that little changed in the reformation as Martin Luther, the great reformer, was an anti-Semite as well:

“What shall we Christians do with this rejected and condemned people, the Jews?”

  • “First, to set fire to their synagogues or schools … This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians …”
  • “Second, I advise that their houses also be razed and destroyed.”
  • “Third, I advise that all their prayer books and Talmudic writings, in which such idolatry, lies, cursing, and blasphemy are taught, be taken from them.”
  • “Fourth, I advise that their rabbis be forbidden to teach henceforth on pain of loss of life and limb …”
  • “Fifth, I advise that safe-conduct on the highways be abolished completely for the Jews. For they have no business in the countryside …”

So what then can we expect from the United Nations?
