A cursory reading of the document called “Reclaiming Jesus” finds a lot that most Christians would have a hard time disagreeing with. Statement Three, for example, says: “We believe how we treat the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the stranger, the sick and the prisoner is how we treat Christ himself.” (Matthew 25:31-46). The following “therefore” statement, however, reads like an attack on President Trump’s policy on illegal immigration:
“THEREFORE, WE REJECT the language and policies of political leaders who would debase and abandon the most vulnerable children of God. We strongly deplore the growing attacks on immigrants and refugees, who are being made into cultural and political targets, and we need to remind our churches that God makes the treatment of the ‘strangers’ among us a test of faith (Leviticus 19:33-34).” more …
Opinion: Who are the children of God? Muslims Hindus, Buddhists? Or maybe Satanists, atheists? According to one of the many outrageous statements of Pope Francis, the children of God may be those who ‘follow their conscience’.
While we are all created by God, we are all most certainly not of God. 1 John 3:10 says this “In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.”
Acts 13:10 “You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord?”
John 8:44 “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
Progressive liberalism is invading the church with the intention of ever so slowly making Biblically weak Christians see the Gospel message as a liberal manifesto:
Statement Six of the document says the authors believe in the Great Commission found in Matthew 28 – and the subsequent “therefore” statement describes the “America First” philosophy as “a theological heresy for followers of Christ.”
And yet the psalmist wrote “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.”
God promised blessing on leaders and nations who follow Him and bless His chosen ones Israel (Genesis 12:3).
