SUNDAY STUDY: Resurrection Sunday

There is no Biblical connection between the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the common modern traditions related to Easter Sunday.

In order to make Christianity more approachable to non-Christians, the ancient Roman Catholic Church mixed the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection with celebrations that involved spring fertility rituals. These spring fertility rituals are the source of the egg and bunny traditions.

For believers, Easter isn’t simply the changing of a season, but a celebration of the way Jesus changed the world. The meaning of Easter is that the Son of God paid the price for our sins and rose again to reconcile us to God (see Romans 4:25).

Only Jesus Christ can give us new and eternal life.

“… be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
