BIN: Scandinavian Jewish leaders have slammed proposed legislation in Iceland that would ban ritual circumcision of boys in the country.
In an open letter issued by the Jewish Communities in the Nordic Countries, which represents Jewish communities in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland, the Jewish leaders said that the proposed ban would make Iceland one of the only countries in the world “to ban one of the most central, if not the most central rite in the Jewish tradition in modern times,” wrote Aron Verständig, Dan Rosenberg-Asmussen, Ervin Kohn and Yaron Nadbornik.
“But it would not be the first time in the long tradition of the Jewish people. Throughout history, more than one oppressive regime has tried to suppress our people and eradicate Judaism by prohibiting our religious practices.” more …
Opinion: Genesis 17:1-14: “And God said to Abraham: “As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised; and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant. He who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money must be circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. And the uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”
Stealth anti-Semitism comes in many flavors. Outlawing circumcision is a cause célèbre of the progressive left and has risen up in the US (California) and Europe on a regular basis.
In an article “The Ban on Circumcision and How Europe is Denying its Past” (here) attempts to show male circumcision is akin to Islamic female mutilation, to the which President of the Conference of European Rabbis, declared that this is a “new antisemitism”, are also not new.
The Rabbi’s charge has a strong basis in history. In 168 BC an evil ruler became king of Syria. From the apocryphal book of 1 Maccabees 1:11–12: “And there came out of them a wicked root, Antiochus the Epiphanes who had been hostage in Rome.”
Antiochus is widely recognized by prophecy scholars as a precursor to the final Antichrist, or the ‘little horn’ of Daniel 8:9 “And out of one of them [one of Alexander’s four generals] came a little horn [an Antichrist figure] which grew exceedingly great toward the
south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land [Israel].”
Antiochus caused the first Abomination of Desolation (Daniel 11:31):
“And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation.”
Antiochus regarded himself as Zeus, the Greek god; hence, his self-given title Epiphanes, meaning “manifestation of God” or “illustrious one.” His diabolical plan was to Hellenize Israel and thereby eradicate Judaism.
The apocryphal book 1 Maccabees 1:63-67 DRA:
“Now the women that circumcised their children were slain according to the commandment of” King Antiochus. And they hanged the children about their necks in all their houses: and those that had circumcised them, they put to death. And there was very great wrath upon the people”
With the Old Testament classified as irrelevant fables by many replacement/covenant theology Christian denominations, the foundational covenant that God made with Abraham is all but forgotten.
If God changed His mind on the promises made to Abraham and his descendants after him, it would make God into what God cannot be; a covenant breaker.
