SUNDAY STUDY: The Breadth and Depth of Sin

As the date for celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Messiah, approaches, let’s take a look as to why humanity even needs a “Savior” in the first place.

“When Adam sinned, we were all there. We were in his loins. We were his progeny. We have all come from Adam and Eve, and so we inherit what theologians call original sin.”

“The important issue of Christmas is not so much that Jesus came, but why He came. There was no salvation in His birth. Nor did the sinless way He lived His life have any redemptive force of its own. His example, as flawless as it was, could not rescue men from their sins. Even His teaching, the greatest truth ever revealed to man, could not save us from our sins. There was a price to be paid for our sins. Only Jesus could do it.” John MacArthur

The only ground on which God can forgive us is the tremendous tragedy of the Cross of Christ. Someone had to pay for our sins, and because there was no one else who could do it, He did it himself.
