Zero Hedge: Following up to last night’s bombshell report that at least two Russian mercenary fighters in Syria had been killed by US-led coalition forces, this morning Bloomberg is out with an exclusive, according to which the body count is far greater than had been disclosed:
U.S. forces reportedly killed “scores” of Russian contract soldiers in Syria last week “in what may be the deadliest clash between citizens of the former foes since the Cold War“, Bloomberg reported.
According to the unnamed US and Russian sources, “more than 200 mercenaries, mostly Russians fighting on behalf of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, died in a failed attack on a base and refinery held by U.S. and U.S.-backed forces in the oil-rich Deir Ezzor region” In terms of total body count, the U.S. official put the death toll at about 100, with 200 to 300 injured. more …
Opinion: Following up on our recent post, the nearly one dozen factions on the ground in Syria appear to align like this:
- Russia is aligned with Syrian government forces, Iran and Hezbollah
- Iran is aligned with Hezbollah, Syrian forces, Shiite militias, and Russia
- US supports Israel, Sunni rebels, and Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces
- Turkey is aligned with no one but is fighting the Kurds and Syrian Government
- Kurds are fighting Turkey
- ISIS is on its own and fighting everyone
When you boil it all down, Syria is a proxy war between the US and Russia. And thanks to Obama/Clinton/Kerry and the 2013 infamous botched red line, Russia is in a position of strength with established bases in the country.
Interestingly, neither Russia nor the US is listed in Psalm 83, making the still-future battle a proxy war. Even more interesting is that from here to the end of the tribulation, Israel will not be defeated.
Isaiah 17:4 “The fat of Jacob will go lean”, indicating that when Damascus is destroyed in one night (Isaiah 17:1,14) Jacob (Israel) will “suffer casualties” but be victorious.
Psalm 83: 8-12 “Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon” the prophet implores God to do to them as He did when Midian’s mighty army was defeated by just 300 Israelites (Judges 7).
Ezekiel 38:18-22 “Every man’s sword will be against his brother” a reminder of 2 Chronicles 20:22 :“Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.”
Revelation 16:16 “And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon” Jesus instructed the Jews (Matthew 24:15-16) that when the abomination of desolation (Daniel 9:27) occurs to flee to the mountains where they will be protected.
