Treasury Department calls for stablecoin regulations

The President’s Working Group on Financial Markets called for bank-like regulatory oversight of stablecoins in a much-anticipated report.

The report highlights gaps in regulation to reduce risks and calls for several legislative moves.

“He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads” Rev. 13:16

It calls for Congress to pass legislation requiring stablecoin issuers to be insured depository institutions in order to prevent against a “run on the bank,” it calls for legislation to require wallet providers to have federal oversight to address payments risk, and it calls for legislation to make stablecoin issuers comply with rules that limit affiliations with other commercial entities.

In the meantime, it calls for agencies to address some of the risks that stablecoins present to the financial system, including the Financial Stability Oversight Council, such as designating certain stablecoin activities as “systemically important payment, clearing, and settlement activities.”

Rally against anti-Semitism organized after Torah vandalized at George Washington University

Chabad at George Washington University will join with members of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and others on Monday at 5 p.m. for a “Torah procession and solidarity rally” after the fraternity house was vandalized and a paper replica of a Torah was destroyed in an incident students are calling a “blatant act of anti-Semitism.”

The vandalism occurred on Saturday night at the on-campus housing for the Tau Kappa Epsilon, a fraternity with a number of Jewish students as members.

“This weekend the on-campus house of the Alpha-Pi Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon was broken into, vandalized and Jewish texts were desecrated,” posted the fraternity.

 

“Our entire chapter is outraged and saddened by this blatant act of anti-Semitism and violence against our brothers. We are cooperating with university officials and the ADL.”

 Conservative predictions suggest the fleet of private jets arriving for COP26 will blast out 13,000tonnes of carbon dioxide in total – equivalent to the amount consumed by more than 1,600 Britons in a year.

President Biden arrived at a climate summit in Glasgow on Sunday, but before that, the president cruised around Rome in an 85-vehicle gas-guzzling motorcade – drawing strong criticism on Twitter about liberal hypocrisy.

On Friday, Biden was on his way to meet Pope Francis, traveling in an 85-car motorcade, when WaPo’s Chico Harlan captured that massive fleet of vehicles involving multiple gas-guzzling limos, SUVs, and a line of vans.

The optics of the massive presidential motorcade is not great for Biden who routinely says “decarbonize this” and decarbonize that.”

Venezuelans Turn To Gold Nuggets As The Local Currency Implodes

The Venezuelan government recently lopped off six zeros from its hyperinflating currency, the bolivar. The highest denomination currency note of 1 million bolivars, worth less than $0.25, was replaced by a one-bolivar note. At the same time, a 100-bolivar note, worth about $25.00, was introduced as the new highest denomination of the bolivar.

The currency conversion was designed  to spare the government the embarrassment of having to issue a 100-million bolivar note to enable people to purchases everyday items without having to carry around bundles of notes, given that the price of a loaf of bread had risen to 7 million old bolivars.

Of course, the arbitrary scaling down of the denomination of the currency will not slow inflation, because the new currency notes can be printed just as cheaply as the old. The bolivar has already lost 73 percent of its value in 2021 alone and the IMF estimates the annual inflation rate will reach 5,500 percent by the end of 2021.

What is wonderfully surprising is the spontaneous emergence of a pure gold currency in a remote region of southeastern Venezuela around the towns of Tumeremo and El Callao.

Police beef up security at malls, shopping centers outside DC following ISIS threat

Northern Virginia authorities were on high alert following an ISIS threat against malls and shopping centers outside the US capital this weekend.

Police were stepping up their presence through Halloween into the runup of Election Day, according to CBS News.

“We have increased our police presence throughout the county to include major thoroughfares, transit hubs, shopping plazas and shopping malls,” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis reportedly said Friday.

A federal intelligence chief said this week that the terror group is pushing lone wolves to attack targets without support, the article stated.
