CBN: Just days before the midterm elections, now House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) vowed from Harvard University to make passing the “Equality Act” one of her top legislative priorities — and she wasn’t bluffing.
The House Judiciary Committee voted last week to advance the deceptively named “Equality Act,” which, according to the conservative legal nonprofit Alliance Defending Freedom, “gives people of faith an ultimatum: Change your faith-based practices or face government punishment.”
If the proposal is approved — which isn’t out of the question, given it has 240 co-sponsors — the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the Fair Housing Act would both be amended to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing, public accommodations, public education, federal funding and the jury system. more …
Opinion: “This is a frontal assault on religious liberty that we have not seen in the history of our nation. Not only does it contain no exemptions for religious organizations for religious individuals like many of these laws in the past have done, it actually strips us of our constitutionally protected rights.” Greg Baylor from the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) tells CBN News.
In our post April 15 …
It’s Not The Equality Act, It’s The Homosexual Supremacy Act
… we quoted the Heritage Foundation: 5 groups who would be harmed if the Equality Act becomes law:
Employers and Workers
The Equality Act would force employers and workers (bakers, photographers, etc.) to conform to new sexual norms or else lose their businesses and jobs.
The Equality Act would force hospitals and insurers to provide and pay for (gender surgeries, hormone treatments) therapies against any moral or medical objections. It would politicize medicine by forcing professionals to act against their best medical judgment and provide transition-affirming therapies.
Parents and Children
This politicization of medicine would ultimately harm families by normalizing hormonal and surgical interventions for gender dysphoric children as well as ideological “education” in schools and other public venues.
The Equality Act would ultimately lead to the erasure of women by dismantling sex-specific facilities, sports, and other female-only spaces.
Non-Profits and Volunteers
The Equality Act would also hurt charities, volunteers, and the populations they serve.
State and local sexual orientation and gender identity laws have shut down numerous faith-based adoption and foster care agencies across the country.
At that time, the likelihood of the Equity Act becoming law was weak. But that was yesterday and as Chad and Jeremy’s 1964 song goes … and yesterday’s gone.
Today, the bill H.R. 5 needs just 5 Rhino Republicans to cross over, and Susan Collins (R, Maine) could be the first. A vote could take place this week.
I would normally say to call your Congress person, but in this case we are better off calling on God in prayer for our nation.
