BIN, Dennis Prager: Imagine a group of people who work to destroy Italy because, they claim, Italy’s origins are illegitimate. Imagine further that these people maintain that of all the countries in the world, only Italy is illegitimate. And then imagine that these people vigorously deny they are in any way anti-Italian. Would you believe them? Or would you dismiss their argument as not only dishonest but absurd?
Substitute “Israel” for “Italy” and “Jew” for “Italian” and you’ll understand the dishonesty and absurdity of the argument that one can be anti-Zionist but not anti-Semitic.
But that is precisely what anti-Zionists say. They argue that the very existence of a Jewish state in the geographic area known as Palestine — there was never an independent country known as Palestine — is illegitimate. They do not believe any other country in the world is illegitimate, no matter how bloody its origins. And then they get offended when they’re accused of being anti-Semitic. more …
Opinion: Zionism is the nationalist movement to create a sovereign (self-ruling) homeland for the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. This movement resulted in the creation of the State of Israel in 1948.
So what does the Bible say?
God chose the Israelites corporately as a separate people unto Himself:
“Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” Exodus 19:5-6
God loves the Israelites
“The Lord did not set His affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath He swore to your ancestors that He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” Deuteronomy 7:7-8
And God loves Jerusalem:
“If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
Let my right hand forget its skill!
If I do not remember you,
Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth—
If I do not exalt Jerusalem
Above my chief joy.” Psalm 137:5-6
And He promised to gather the Jews from the nations
“For thus says the Lord God: “Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is among his scattered sheep, so will I seek out My sheep and deliver them from all the places where they were scattered on a cloudy and dark day.” Ezekiel 34:11-12
And He promised to restore to the land in the last days
“then they shall know that I am the Lord their God, who sent them into captivity among the nations, but also brought them back to their land, and left none of them captive any longer.” Ezekiel 38:28
And He promised to save them:
“And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.” Zechariah 12:10
Jesus will be the deliverer
“The Deliverer will come out of Zion,
And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;
For this is My covenant with them,
When I take away their sins.” Romans 11:26-27
The anti-Zionists will be destroyed at His return
Jesus goes to Edom (Genesis 36:1) to destroy the final enemy of the Jewish people:
“Who is this who comes from Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah,
This One who is glorious in His apparel, Traveling in the greatness of His strength? —
“I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save”
Why is Your apparel red, And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?
“I have trodden the winepress alone, And from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, And trampled them in My fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, And I have stained all My robes.” Isaiah 63:1-3
End of story.
