Israel Today: For Evangelical Christians, it’s difficult to look at major developments in the Middle East without wondering about biblical prophecy. Should we rejoice over the historic peace treaty between Israel and the UAE and Bahrain? Or is this leading to a dangerous, false peace that will only hasten the reign of the antichrist?
A Unique Development in the Modern History of Israel
For 30 years, from 1948 until 1978, not a single Middle Eastern nation made peace with Israel. It was not until 1979 that Egypt made that historic move. It ultimately factored into the assassination of the courageous Egyptian leader Anwar Sadat.
The next Middle Eastern (and Muslim) nation to make peace with Israel was Jordan in 1995, 16 years later. Since then, not a single Islamic, Middle Eastern nation has made peace with Israel. That is, until now, 25 years later. Read More …
Opinion: To get a handle on these momentous developments we really have to rightly divide God’s word (2 Timothy 2:15). Context, Context and more Context.
When Donald Trump fulfilled his promise to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, followed by acknowledging the Golan Heights as Israeli land, the stage was set for prophetic war. But which one?
There is a major war prophesied in Ezekiel 38-39 that most religious Jews and Evangelical Christians agree will take place before Messiah returns.
The Gog Magog invasion will be a massive attack led by Russia, and at least 6 other nations that are forming alliances against Israel as we speak.
The key verse that this war (Gog Magog) comes after another war, is found in Ezekiel 38:8 NIV
“After many days you will be called to arms. In future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate.”
Two key points:
- None of Israel’s hostile immediate neighbors join in on the Gog Magog invasion
- Psalm 83 prophesies an invasion of each one of Israel’s neighbors and their destruction
Another key verse is found in Ezekiel 39:22. At the end of Israel’s miraculous victory, the true sons and daughters of Jacob will have an irresistible desire to return to covenant relationship with the Father …
“From that day forward the people of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God” Ezekiel 39:22.
… and Jews from all over the world will be called home ending the diaspora that began in AD 70:
“Then they will know that I am the Lord their God, for though I sent them into exile among the nations, I will gather them to their own land, not leaving any behind.“ Ezekiel 39:28
The stage will then be set for a peace treaty to be confirmed by Antichrist:
Once in the land, Daniel’s 70 week, the tribulation period (Daniel 9:24-27), will commence when another ME peace treaty is confirmed, but this one will have a 7 year time frame, a temple, and Antichrist all in one package.
“He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven’ (7 years) In the middle of the ‘seven; (3.5 years) he (Antichrist) will put an end to sacrifice and offering (3rd temple). And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.” Daniel 9:27 NIV
