SUNDAY STUDY: What does “Believe In Your Heart” mean?

If I were not a Christian and you were to explain the gospel to me what would you say?

The gospel message found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-5, that Jesus died in our place for our sins as a substitutionary atonement. He was buried and He rose from the dead, proving that He was the Son of God himself. In the most famous verse of Scripture Jesus said that whoever believes in Him has eternal life, John 3:16.

We must preach the gospel everywhere to everyone (Mark:16:15).

It must be believed for anyone to be saved from eternal separation from God: “for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek” (Romans:1:16).

“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts:4:12).

[W]hat must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ…” (Acts:16:30,31).

“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

The warning is solemn and clear: “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” (John 3:36).
