Timeline: Globalism, the Church and Anti-Semitism
How the Tower of Babel and the Reformation Stopped a Global Government and Global Church
God has not allowed a global government or global church to prosper (yet) to prevent Satan from gaining a foothold…
In 2240 BC – the Tower of Babel – Global Government Begins (Gen. 11:1-9)
Noah’s descendants refused to be dispersed to fill the earth. They attempted to build a city and tower to make a name for themselves (humanism), and to reach heaven with the top of the tower, therefore, God confused their language. The people were dispersed, global government was thwarted.
The 1st Century AD – The Church Age Begins (Acts 2:1-4)
Early in the 2nd century, Satan attempted to make the church universal
In 110 AD – early church father Saint Ignatius of Antioch in his Letter to the Smyrnaeans used the term “catholic” church(literally meaning “universal” church).
In 150 AD – in a document called the ‘Dialog’, Justin Martyr made his strong case for a “New Israel,” a “True Israel,” in replacement of biblical Israel―hence, the term “Replacement Theology” or “Supersessionsm” (that the Church supersedes Israel). In 220 AD – Origen of Alexandria, known as the “father of allegorical interpretation”, developed a method of interpreting the Bible allegorically, instead of literally.
In 250 AD – Saint Cyprian of Carthage declared “no salvation outside the Church.”
In 313 AD – the Roman Emperor Constantine issued the Edict of Milan, which accepted Christianity; 10 years later, it had become the official religion of the Roman Empire. Anti-Semitism flourished.
In 325 AD – Replacement Theology was officially enacted into Roman law at the Council of Nicea.
In 400 AD – allegorical interpretations of Scripture led to conflicting biblical/religious teachings as dogma/tradition arose in the early church, beginning with Augustine of Hippo:
- infant baptism
- the perpetual virginity of Mary
- the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist
- baptismal regeneration
- mortal/venial sin
- praying to saints
Note: Augustine claimed to “love” the Jews, but as a means to convert them to Christianity. Sometimes he identified all Jews with the evil Judas.
In 400 AD – John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople, held that Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus Christ. He compared the synagogue to a pagan temple, representing it as the source of all vices and heresies.
In 400 AD – St. Jerome translated the Greek and Hebrew Scriptures into Latin (383-400 AD) where it remained for over 100 years.
- 476 AD- 1517 the Dark Ages era
Under Papal influence, Catholicism continued to embrace Biblically conflicting traditions:
- indulgences – 1095 AD (Pope Urban II)
- purgatory – 1150 AD (Peter the Lombard, Bishop of Paris France)
- papal infallibility – 13th century (by the Franciscan Order of priests)
The Bible spreads to Europe
- in 1455 the Bible was printed in Europe
- in 1456 the first German Bible, the Mentelin Bible, was printed
- in 1468 the Gutenberg printing press was invented
- In 1478 the Inquisition (convert to Catholicism or die) begins in Spain
In 1517 the Reformation Begins
- In 1518 the Mentelin Bible had been reprinted at least 13 times
- In the early 1500s Lutheranism as a religious movement begins
- Martin Luther, following Augustine and Chrysostom’s anti-Semitism, recommended to “Set fire to their synagogues or schools,” and Jewish houses should “be razed and destroyed.”
- early 1500s Reformed Theology/Calvinism (all the redeemed of Christ are Israel)
- In 1517 Catholic priest Martin Luther in an attack on the Roman Catholic Church nailed his 95 theses to the door of Wittenberg’s Castle Church
- In 1540 the Jesuit counter-reformation begins to bring all religions under the authority of the pope
The Jesuits had three goals: to establish highly disciplined schools, to propagate Catholic beliefs through missionary work, and to combat Protestantism. The Jesuits quickly became the militant arm of the Papacy and the Catholic Church.
- In 1563 faith/works salvation – the Council of Trent’s Decree on Justification declared that anyone who says sinners are justified by faith alone is anathema, or dammed by God, in contravention of Ephesians 2:8-9.
The Reformation Thwarts a Global Church to Stop Satan
At Babylon, the first globalization effort that took place was thwarted by God when He confused the languages and scattered the people. In the Reformation, the first official global church was stopped when God allowed denominations to break it up.
In the early 1800s, Dispensational Theology returned the Bible to literal reading and divided the Bible from Genesis to Revelation into “dispensations”, in which God has dealt with humanity in different ways at different periods of times.
DISPENSATIONALISM is a pre-tribulation (Rapture) and pre-millennial (2nd Coming) system of theology that recognizes 3 basic tenets: (1 Cor 9:17; Eph. 1:10, 3:2; Col. 1:24; 2 Tim. 2:15):
- Israel and the Church are separate but equal in God’s plan.
- Scripture is to be interpreted by the literal method unless the text itself mentions a figurative or symbolic interpretation.
- The underlying purpose of God in this world is His glory.
God Will Allow A Future 7 Year Global Government and Church After the Rapture of Believers
(Rom. 5:9; 1 Cor. 15:51-52; 1 Thess. 4:16-17, 5:9: Rev. 3:10)
Satan gains a foothold, but on a short leash.
In the 7-year tribulation period, a global political leader (Rev. 13:1), Satan (Rev. 13:4), and a religious leader (Rev. 13:11) as second in command to the Antichrist (Daniel 7:23-24; Revelation 6:1-2), will be allowed for exactly 7 years.
Global Government and Global Church are Defeated – the Millennial Reign
When Christ returns to the Mount of Olives (Zech. 14:4) for 1000 years of peace (Rev. 20:1-2), Satan, the Antichrist, and the False Prophet will be thrown into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:10).
The Jewish people will be revered…
“Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” Zechariah 8:23
And men and women will make pilgrimages to Jerusalem…
“Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.” Isaiah 2:2
