Debkafile: A large influx of US troops is entering northeastern Syria this month to counter new Russian plans. This step follows several summersaults on Syria by President Donald Trump since his March 20 decision to withdraw the US from that country.
Thousands of words of condemnation landed on the White House on Oct. 13 when US Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced the decision to withdraw US forces from northeastern Syria. The administration was accused of deserting the US allied Kurds, the core of the Syrian Democratic Forces which defeated ISIS and opening the door for Iran to surge across the Iraqi-Syrian border.
However, thorough investigation by DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources have uncovered a totally different reality. While substantial US forces were indeed withdrawn from their Syrian bases to Iraq with masses of equipment, US troop reinforcements have been pouring in and continue to arrive in northeastern Syria.
Not only were existing bases not abandoned, but new positions are being set up, including one or more new US air bases. US forces are moreover taking over Syria’s oil and gas fields after the SDF moved in. more …
Opinion: I have to tell you this is getting confusing. One minute the US is out, then we are staying there to protect the oil and the next minute we are building bases in northern Syria. Unfortunately what it shows is a snap agreement made with a highly untrustworthy ally (Turkey) showing a clear lack of knowledge of Biblical prophecy.
The good news is that when it comes to the ME, President Trump has made few mistakes, and that is saying something. His predecessor, Barack Obama dealt in the Middle East with a clear bias toward the Palestinian as an oppressed people group, and Israel as an occupier of land to which they had no right.
President Trump on the other hand, had the courage to bless Israel by moving the US embassy to Jerusalem and then declaring the Golan Heights as Israeli territory.
Here is what the prophecies tell us:
Damascus will be destroyed overnight Isaiah 17:1-14
Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Palestinians of the West Bank, Sinai and Gaza along with Lebanon from the north and Saudi Arabia from the south will attack Israel. Psalm 83:1-8
When that fails another group will give it a shot:
Russia, Iran, Turkey and North Africa will attack in what will be the most miraculous victory in Israel’s history. Ezekiel 38-39
“Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” 2 Chronicles 20:15
The clock is ticking.
