Israel 365: Last month, the Vatican Observatory Research Group (VRG) launched a new project, a website to present their theories, with the expressed mission of showing the world that “the Church and science can coexist.” A closer look shows that the Vatican project is challenged by the Biblical account of creation and comes very close to explicitly rejecting Genesis.
VRG: SUPPORTING SCIENCE OR CAPITULATING TO SECULARISM?
Established in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII as the Vatican’s scientific institution, the VRG is currently headquartered in Castel Gandolfo, Italy, and operates a telescope at the Mount Graham International Observatory in the United States. The mandate of the current VRG stated by Pope Leo XIII in 1891 was to “show the world that the Church supports science.”
In a 2002 interview for the Catholic Education Resource Center, George Coyne, a Jesuit who ran the VRG for over a quarter of a century until he retired in 2006, stated that the Vatican policy was to firmly embrace evolution, “both biological and cosmological,” as fact.
“Revelation teaches us that man was created in the image and likeness of God,” Coyne stated, citing Pope John Paul as the source. New knowledge has led us to realize that the theory of evolution is no longer a mere hypothesis.” Read More …
Opinion: When will I stop being amazed? After spending most of my life in the Catholic Church, I keep wondering what Biblical truth will they stomp on next?
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth” Genesis 1:1, is lost on this pontiff.
Is this new ‘secular humanist’ brand of Catholicism leading to the final religion (Rev.3:14-22)?
So far this Roman pontiff has questioned homosexuality with “Who am I to judge?”, claimed even atheists will be saved “if they follow their conscience”, looked the other way when providing the Church’s holiest sacrament to Catholics who support abortion, proposed blessing civil unions for same-sex couples, denied the existence of hell, came out against the death penalty, suggested that the church should grant communion to divorced-and-remarried couples despite the fact that the Catholic Church believes in the indissolubility of marriage, has refused to contend with the aftermath of the Catholic sex abuse scandal, opposed Donald Trump’s decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem, kissed the feet of Sudan leaders, embraced lifelong terrorist Mahmoud Abbas even calling him an angel of peace, signed a Document on Human Fraternity with the Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, and all that since 2013.
If not for Paul’s message in Timothy 3:1…
“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come”
… all of that would be difficult to comprehend.
