Ken Timmerman; 20 years after the Iraq war: Are we stronger today??

This week marks the 20th anniversary of the 2nd Gulf war. Detractors speak of the invasion of Iraq. I have always looked at it as the liberation, as do many Iraqis.

But most Americans have been taught a history of lies, a history forged by left-wing political activists and their allies in the media and rarely contradicted by those who knew the truth.

Karl Rove admitted in a 2010 oped that his “biggest mistake” in the Bush White House was not pushing back on those lies – and specifically, not correcting the historical record about weapons of mass destruction.

Yes, Virginia: the U.S. found WMD components, raw materials, factories, and ongoing research programs in Iraq after the war – just not “stockpiles” of compiled weapons.

You can agree or disagree with the decision to take out Saddam. But to form an opinion, you need to know the facts. I set them out in a column earlier this week at FrontPage mag.

People also forget that Saddam himself was a weapon of mass destruction, and murdered 5,000 Kurdish civilians in Halabja 35 years ago this week, and more than 100,000 Kurds in the ensuing Anfal campaign.

The Biden administration has greatly diminished America’s military deterrence, as well as our ability to wage war. Nations no longer fear us, or fear the long-arm of U.S. political determination.

On Thursday, General Erik Kurilla, the commander of U.S. Central Command, told Congress that the Iranians have attacked U.S. bases in Syria 78 times since Biden took office – this after an Iranian drone killed a U.S. contractor in Syria and wounded five more. He also noted that Iran today has “exponentially” more military capability than just five years ago, when Trump’s “maximum pressure” campaign of sanctions had crippled the Iranian economy.

(It was China, after all, that brokered the Saudi-Iranian rapprochement two weeks ago,) We also discuss Iranian preparations to launch a world-wide terror campaign against Israeli and American targets should Israel launch military strikes against Iranian nuclear weapons facilities.
