San Diego-Area Students On Summer Trip Stranded In Taliban-Controlled Afghanistan

Daily Wire: Dozens of students enrolled in a school district in San Diego County, California, are reportedly stuck in the Middle East as the U.S. military accelerates plans to evacuate forces from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan by the end of the month.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports, “At least 24 students from the Cajon Valley Union School District in El Cajon and 16 parents are stranded in Afghanistan after taking a summer trip abroad.

” According to the outlet, “Cajon Valley Supt. David Miyashiro told school district board members via text message Tuesday that he and other Cajon Valley staff met virtually with U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Bonsall) and his staff about the situation.”

Congressman Issa and his staff are working diligently to determine the facts on the ground, any bureaucratic barriers that can be removed, and the best ways to help those stranded leave Afghanistan and return home safely,” a staffer from Issa’s office said in an email to the Union-Tribune. “We won’t stop until we have answers and action.”

An ABC 7 report said the students were currently in Kabul with their parents after visiting extended relatives “on a non-school-sanctioned trip.” When the Taliban took control, some were already en route to the airport.

Jo Alegria, a member of the Cajon Valley School Board, said the district was trying to help expedite the students and their families’ return to America after they could not get to the airport for their scheduled flights. Read More

Ohio judge orders COVID vaccination as condition of avoiding jail

LifeSite News: A Hamilton County judge has ordered a man convicted of fentanyl possession to receive COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of remaining on probation and out of jail. 

Brandon Rutherford and his attorney plan to fight back against Judge Christopher Wagner’s mandate. Wagner is not the only judge to require COVID vaccination, as fellow Ohio county Judge Richard Frye has also ordered it in Franklin County.

“You’re going to maintain employment. You’re not going to be around a firearm. I’m going to order you, within the next two months, to get a vaccine and show that to the probation office,” Wagner reportedly told Rutherford. Wagner is a member of the Democratic Party and first took office in January 2021. 

“I don’t plan on getting it. I don’t want it,” Rutherford told WCPO. “So, for him to tell me that I have to get it in order for me to not violate my probation is crazy because I’m just trying to do what I can to get off this as quickly as possible, like finding a job and everything else, but that little thing can set me back.” 

Rutherford said he has been avoiding trouble and wants to find work, but is worried about being sent to jail because he won’t take the vaccine. He is concerned that a prison record will make it harder for him to amend his life. He could spend 18 months in prison if he refuses to get vaccinated. Read More

According to Bloomberg, some of the largest U.S. food distributors are “reporting difficulties in fulfilling orders as a lack of workers weighs on the supply chain.” Take distribution giant Sysco, North America’s largest wholesale food distributor, which is turning away customers in some areas where demand is exceeding capacity.

Worse, food inflation is about to soar: the company said prices for key goods such as chicken, pork and paper products for takeout packaging are climbing amid tight supplies. In particular, production has slowed for high-demand, labor-intensive cuts like bacon, ribs, wings and tenders, Sysco said. JPost: It’s symbolic of how Prime Minister Naftali Bennett views the significance of this trip to Washington that he flew off without nary a word about the Palestinians.

Iran, the COVID-19 Delta variant and even climate change were on his list of issues as he stood on the tarmac at Ben-Gurion International Airport and briefly outlined for reporters the scope of the trip.

Breitbart: President Joe Biden delivered a statement to the nation on the crisis in Afghanistan on Tuesday evening — but not before talking about his “Build Back Better” agenda and the House of Representatives vote on $3.5 trillion in new spending.

“Before I update you on the meeting that I had with leaders of the G-7 earlier today, I want to say a word about the progress we’re making on the ‘Build Back Better’ agenda here at home,” Biden began, before praising the House vote on spending. He also congratulated Democrats on passing H.R. 4, the “John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021,” which would vastly expand federal authority over election, but which is considered extremely unlikely to pass in the Senate.

Taliban say they won’t allow Afghans to leave country, reject evacuation extension

CNN: The Taliban said Tuesday that they were “not allowing the evacuation of Afghans anymore” and warned that the US must stick to next week’s deadline to pull out, as a frantic Western evacuation operation at Kabul airport picked up pace.

The announcement came as US President Joe Biden made clear he aims to stick with his August 31 deadline to withdraw troops from Afghanistan — as long as the Taliban does not disrupt ongoing evacuation operations or airport access. Top American allies have already called for an extension in order to fly more people out.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told a press conference Tuesday that while foreign nationals could continue traveling to the airport, the huge crowds of Afghans that have gathered there in recent days should return home and would not face reprisals from the country’s new rulers.

Psaki Claims Biden’s Afghanistan Crisis Is ‘A Success,’ Some Could Be Left Behind?

Daily Wire: White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was grilled during Tuesday’s press briefing over the administration’s disaster in Afghanistan.

Psaki said that completion of the operation to evacuate U.S. citizens depended “on continued coordination with the Taliban,” adding that Biden has requested contingency plans from the Pentagon.

She later added that the evacuations would stop before the August 31 deadline so there was time to get U.S. forces out of the country. Psaki did not know whether the deadline was at midnight on August 30 or 31 and whether it was U.S. time or Afghanistan time.

Poll: Americans Oppose Mass Migration from Afghanistan

Breitbart: A majority of Americans oppose the resettlement of more than 50,000 Afghans in the United States, according to a survey by Rasmussen Reports.

The August 18-19 survey of 1,000 likely voters was taken as President Joe Biden appears to be expanding the number of migrants he is flying to the United States, far above the initial predictions of 22,000 Afghans — plus family members — who worked alongside the U.S. soldiers who were supporting Afghanistan’s government.

“Enormous numbers of [Afghan] people are trying to jam themselves into that [airlift] funnel right now,” said Ken Cuccinelli, who served as the deputy chief of homeland security for President Donald Trump. Even if President Joe Biden does not want to raise the inflow, Cuccinelli added, “there are plenty of people in this country, of both parties, who would be more than happy to use this excuse to just grab another 50,000 or 100,000 immigrants through this unusual pipeline at this deadly moment.”

Biden’s liberal base strongly supports massive resettlement, regardless of the damage to Americans’ wages, rents, and civic society. Thirty-five percent of liberals want Biden to deliver more than 100,000 Afghans, and another 20 percent want between 50,000 and 100,000.
