Cyptocurrency enthusiasts got a nasty shock Wednesday when Elon Musk, founder of Tesla Inc. and the second-richest person on the planet, announced on Twitter that his automaker wouldn’t accept payment in Bitcoin any more due to environmental concerns.

After all, this is the same man who just a few months earlier said Tesla bought into Bitcoin, to the tune of $1.5 billion. He tweeted “True” in response to a thread citing research that mining the token might actually spur the uptake of renewable energy, from Ark Investment Management LLC. Bitcoin mining is known to be energy-intensive, with the industry prizing cheap and plentiful power supplies.

New Highs Await?

“This may be the selloff that sets Bitcoin up for new all-time highs,” said David Grider of Fundstrat Global Advisors LLC. “We think the news is overblown and wouldn’t be surprised if Tesla is signaling plans to make crypto ‘greener.’” In a note Wednesday, Grider said Bitcoin has been consolidating for months as its market dominance has waned, but he’s still bullish, with a target of $100,000.

They said there were no comparisons between the State of Israel defending itself and the terrorist organization Hamas launching rockets at innocent civilians.

“In case there is any confusion, Hamas is a terrorist organization designated by the United States, dedicated to the destruction of Israel, and which Congress has and must condemn for killing innocent civilians and using women and children as human shields,” said Gottheimer. “No one here should make excuses for a terrorist organization. Dow futures jump more than 100 points as stocks continue to claw back the week’s losses

CNBC: U.S. stocks were set to gain for a second day after starting the week with big losses.

Futures contracts tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 139 points. S&P 500 futures gained 0.6%. Futures on the tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 Index, the relative underperformer for the week, snapped back by 1.

During regular trading, the Dow advanced 434 points for a gain of 1.29%. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite gained 1.22% and 0.72%, respectively. Still, despite Thursday’s strong session, the major averages are on track for hefty losses for the week as inflation fears hit sentiment.

The Dow is down 2.2% for the week, while the S&P has shed 2.8%. Tech stocks have been hit especially hard, pulling the Nasdaq down 4.6% for the week.

Tech stocks were the biggest outperformers in premarket trading Friday. Tesla gained 2.5%. Twitter was up 2.2%. Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Alphabet were all trading in the green.

IDF calls up reservists as rockets continue to pound Israel

JPost: The Israeli military is prepared to continue with its strikes on Hamas and other terror groups in the Gaza Strip for several days and has called up 7,000 reservists as rocket barrages continue to pound central and southern Israel.

The Israeli military is prepared to continue with its strikes on Hamas and other terror groups in the Gaza Strip for several days and has called up 7,000 reservists as rocket barrages continue to pound central and southern Israel.

The reservists would come from combat units and command center operators and would serve in the Southern Command, Central Command, and Northern Command, so that soldiers regularly stationed there could be sent on other missions.

Earlier in the day the IDF called up reservists serving in artillery, Iron Dome batteries, doctors, paramedics, IAF, intelligence and other combat units. Another Iron Dome battery was also added to those placed around the country. Read More

Grenell calls Susan Rice the ‘shadow president’ and ‘no one is paying attention’

Fox News: Richard Grenell, the former acting director of National Intelligence under President Trump, said in an interview with CPAC that he believes Susan Rice has assumed the role of a “shadow president.”

Rice, who served as national security adviser under President Obama, was tapped last December by President Biden to take charge of the White House Domestic Policy Council. It is in that role that Grenell believes she is exerting her influence.
