Facing growing pressure to ease up on pandemic restrictions, the White House insisted Wednesday it is making plans for a less-disruptive phase of the national virus response. But impatient states, including Democratic New York, made clear they aren’t waiting for Washington as public frustration grows.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that New York will end its COVID-19 mandate requiring face coverings in most indoor public settings — but will keep it for schools. Illinois announced the same.

Earlier this week, New Jersey, Connecticut and Delaware all disclosed plans to join states that have lifted or never had mask requirements for their schools, and Massachusetts will follow suit at the end of the month. All but Massachusetts have governors who are Democrats, like President Joe Biden.
Biden, who has long promised to follow to “follow the science” in confronting the pandemic, is hemmed in, waiting for fresh guidance from federal health officials, who so far still recommend that nearly all Americans wear masks in most indoor settings.
U.S. consumer prices jumped by the most in nearly four decades as the new year started, sapping the savings of American families, diminishing the purchasing power of worker paychecks, and putting pressure on the Federal Reserve to hike interest rates beginning in March.
The consumer price index climbed 0.6 percent from a month before, the Department of Labor said Thursday. Compared with January of last year, consumer prices are up 7.5 percent.
Economists had expected prices to rise 0.4 percent on a monthly basis and 7.2 percent above a year ago’s prices.

Although many economists and anti-Trump journalists claimed President Donald Trump’s tariffs would raise prices, consumer prices remained low throughout his administration. Trump’s tariffs turned out not to be taxes on consumers. Instead, they were absorbed by Chinese producers and exporters and the profit margins of most large U.S. companies.
Inflation only began to accelerate last March after years of coming in below the Fed’s two percent target.

Assessment: Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) tweeted on the absurdity of it all, “Last week, Biden talked about being tough on crime. This week, the Biden Admin announced funds for crack pipe distribution to ‘advance racial equity.”
The Biden administration is planning on funding the distribution of crack pipes to drug addicts in underserved communities in the name of “advancing racial equity” via a $30 million grant program that will be implemented by nonprofits and local governments.
The Washington Free Beacon is reporting that the practice is included in the Department of Health and Human Services’ fiscal year 2022 Harm Reduction Program Grant program. The program describes in a document the crack pipe distribution plan as the dispersion of federal government funds for “smoking kits/supplies.”
A spokesman told the media outlet that the grant money will supply addicts with safer crack pipes for smoking crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, or “any illicit substance.” The spokesperson also justified the move by claiming the pipes will reduce users’ chances of becoming infected which is common among crack addicts.
An HHS spokesman refused to say what is included in the smoking kits. Similar distribution efforts have reportedly provided mouthpieces to prevent glass cuts, rubber bands to prevent burns, and filters to minimize the risk of disease.

On Sunday, Pastor Henry Hildebrand addressed the massive gathering of people who joined with the Freedom Convoy of trucks at Parliament Hill in Ottawa to protest the government’s mandate requiring truckers to be vaccinated.
Inspired by the enthusiastically honking trucks, Pastor Hildebrandt compared the convoy to the Biblical story of Jericho.
“I say Jericho did not know who had come to Jericho, and there was quite a bit of honking there as well,” Pastor Hildebrandt said, referring to the story of Joshua leading the Hebrews against the city with blasts from shofars.
“I have heard the trumpet blowing this week,” the pastor continued. “This week has been ordained of God. This happening is God-ordained, and it is not just for Canada; it is global. It is prophetic. God is in it. Long before man plans a reset, God is resetting. Never underestimate God’s mighty power.”
The pastor emphasized that just as the shofars brought down the might walls of Jericho, allowing the Children of Israel to conquer the city, the horns of the truck would bring down the government and its pandemic decrees.
“Mr. Prime Minister, if you don’t want to heed to the word of God; if you don’t want to heed to the 25 bible verses that are engraved (in the Parliament), you might have a fringe come and knock at your door.”
