Unpredictable consequences from the Afghan crisis
As China, Russia, Iran and others rise to the occasion, the ascent of the Taliban may signal a post-American world order
“But news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many.” Daniel 11:44
This means that what is happening has unforeseen consequences. There are many unanswered questions. The New York Times claims that “few will gang up on the U.S. for finally stopping a failed enterprise.” But in the longer term, “the notion that you cannot count on the Americans will strike deeper roots because of Afghanistan.’’ This may underpin some European reactions, according to the article.
What is more perplexing is that other NATO members, including European countries, also withdrew from Afghanistan and yet, oddly, this doesn’t erode confidence in whether anyone can count on NATO or European countries. The unspoken point may be that no one was counting on NATO or European states anyway, so it was America’s war to lose. Read More
Yes, There Are Victims in the Government’s Eviction Moratorium
PJ Media: Listening to radical activists, you might be fooled into thinking that the government’s demonstrably illegal eviction moratorium had no downside whatsoever. In fact, the only harm done was to rich, white, property owners who could afford to give their tenants a small break in rent during the COVID crisis.
“It is an abomination for kings to commit wickedness,
For a throne is established by righteousness.” Proverbs 16:12
That’s not even close to being true. There are plenty of victims of the government’s eviction moratorium — just like there are winners and losers every time the government chooses to “help” people. The problem comes from those who pretend there are only happy winners when the government prevents commerce from going on. In truth, there are a whole bunch of losers too — victims of an altruistic government that chooses one class of people — tenants — over another — landlords.
Covid relief measures like the Paycheck Protection Program were designed to help the vulnerable while dispersing the cost among current and future taxpayers. The eviction moratoriums are different: They impose severe hardships on certain people in the name of helping others. The toll is especially high on small landlords like Ms. Morey, who must pay for insurance, mortgages, property taxes and upkeep regardless of whether they’re receiving rent payments. Ms. Morey says Ms. Santucci owes her almost $16,000.
Problem tenants are fairly rare — about as rare as greedy, uncaring property owners. The system operated fairly well during times of normal stress like bad economic times or a tenant getting sick and unable to pay rent. If the tenant had been reasonably good — paying on time, not trashing the property — the landlord generally worked out satisfactory arrangements with the tenant for payment. Read More …
Americans trapped in Kabul told to fill out an online evacuation form as Taliban take over
WND: The State Department on Sunday told Americans in Kabul that their best chance of survival is to hide.
“The security situation in Kabul is changing quickly including at the airport. There are reports of the airport taking fire; therefore we are instructing U.S. citizens to shelter in place,” the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan said in a statement published on its website on Sunday.
“A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.” Proverbs 18:2
The embassy then told everyone that even as the Taliban took over Kabul, it is vital to have that paperwork in order.
And access to electrical power and a working Wi-Fi connection are apparently necessary, too.
“U.S. citizens wanting assistance in departing the country should register for any option that might be identified to return to the United States, and must complete this Repatriation Assistance Request for each traveler in their group,” the embassy notice said.
“Spouses and minor children of U.S. citizens in Afghanistan who are awaiting immigrant visas should also complete this form if they wish to depart. Please do so as soon as possible. You must complete this form even if you’ve previously submitted your information to the U.S. Embassy in Kabul,” it said. Read More
Crypto market tops $2 trillion for the first time in nearly 3 months as bitcoin rallies
CNBC: Bitcoin topped $48,000 over the weekend, its highest level since mid-May but pared some of those gains on Monday
On Saturday, the digital coin hit $48,126.47, its highest level since May 17, according to Coindesk data. Around 2:49 a.m. ET on Monday, bitcoin was trading at $47,442.40.
“so that no one may buy or sell, except he who has the mark or the name of the beast or the number of his name.” Rev. 13:17
The bitcoin recovery comes after it sold off heavily in June and July, even dropping below $30,000 following a record high of over $64,000 in April.
“I do believe this (bitcoin’s rise) is the result of massive accumulation” when bitcoin was trading around $29,000 to $30,000, according to Vijay Ayyar, head of business development at cryptocurrency exchange Luno.
‘That’s It, It’s Over’: Afghan President And ‘Core Team’ Flown Out Of Afghanistan
Former CIA Officer: “The Most Infamous & Devastating Press Conference Ever Held By An American President”
Zero Hedge: Kabul’s streets are clogged with panicked civilians fleeing the Taliban onslaught of the Afghan capital, American chinook helicopters are hovering above the US Embassy with an emergency evacuation in progress, and the national government propped up for two decades by US money and power is negotiating surrender with barely a fight.
One former CIA officer has observed looking back to Joe Biden’s July 8 Afghan policy speech: “This may become the most infamous — and devastating — press conference ever held by an American President,” wrote CIA foreign operations veteran Bryan Dean Wright on Sunday.

Watch: 100s Of US Citizens Scramble Aboard C-17 As Taliban Ready To Declare “Islamic Emirate Of Afghanistan”
Zero Hedge: Update (1310ET): The situation is Kabul (well all of Afghanistan) has gone from bad to worst case scenario as a Taliban official says they will soon declare the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from the presidential palace in Kabul, the Associated Press reported, after reports of the insurgents entering the premises and taking control of it.
The level of mismanagement is astonishing. With no military background, I could have told you to 1) Ship all military equipment home, 2) Establish a plan to get US civilians & embassy members out in advance & 3) Offer asylum to all of the natives who assisted us during that time.
This is happening in Kabul right now.
Biden has allowed the Taliban to regain control.
Now civilians are fleeing the country.

U.S. Embassy in Kabul Destroying Documents in Anticipation of Withdrawal
PJ Media: Less than a week ago, reports from the Pentagon indicated that the Taliban’s advance across Afghanistan was so rapid that the government wouldn’t survive more than 30-90 days.
Today, that time frame appears to be wildly optimistic. The national government of Afghanistan may not have even 30 hours before the capital of Kabul is overrun.
“He sits in the lurking places of the villages; In the secret places he murders the innocent;
His eyes are secretly fixed on the helpless.” Psalm 10:8
It’s hard to determine if this was an intelligence failure or a political bungle by the president. Either way, the Afghan people are going to pay for the American failure.
Now, all our energies must be directed to getting our people out safely. The president has sent 3,000 troops to protect the withdrawal of the 650 remaining troops and 1500 diplomatic personnel still in harm’s way.
There are also thousands of Afghan civilian workers who assisted the U.S. during our mission and who are in mortal danger once the Taliban takes over. Read More
Leaked Audio: DHS Secretary Says Border Crisis ‘Unsustainable,’ ‘We Are Going To Lose’
Daily Wire: In a leaked recording obtained by Fox News, Department of Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas can be heard admitting that the situation at the border is “unsustainable” and that “we’re going to lose” if “borders are the first line of defense.”
The audio was reportedly recorded during a visit Mayorkas paid to the border to view the situation on the ground firsthand. According to official Customs and Border Protection (CBP) statistics, agents encountered 212,672 illegal immigrants at the border in the month of July — a shocking, 13% increase over the number of migrants apprehended in the month of June.
“A couple of days ago I was down in Mexico, and I said look, you know, if, if our borders are the first line of defense, we’re going to lose and this is unsustainable,” Mayorkas said Thursday in a meeting with border patrol agents, according to Fox News’ Bill Melguin, who came into possession of the audio. “We can’t continue like this, our people in the field cant continue and our system isn’t built for it.”
Mayorkas appears, in the recording, to be reassuring CBP that things will change, though he is clear that agents must make sure that the situation comes under control.
“Mayorkas told the agents that the current border situation ‘cannot continue,’” Fox News reported Friday.“ Read More
Nixon’s “Closing the Gold Window” 50 Years Ago Is Nothing to Celebrate
New American: Just a few days before then-President Richard Nixon announced he was “closing the gold window” on August 15, 1971, the British ambassador came to Washington to demand that the U.S. Treasury redeem some $3 billion worth of paper dollars Britain was holding in exchange for gold. With more than $45 billion in Federal Reserve notes outstanding worldwide and only $10 billion in gold to back them up, Nixon called 15 advisors for a secret meeting to decide what to do.
“They will throw their silver into the streets, And their gold will be like refuse;
Their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them In the day of the wrath of the Lord … ” Ezekiel 7:19
Out of that meeting came Nixon’s announcement:
Prosperity without war [the Vietnam war was winding down] requires action on three fronts: we must create more and better jobs; we must stop the rise in the cost of living; [and] we must protect the dollar from the attacks of international money speculators….
The … indispensable element … [is] to stop the rise in the cost of living….
Homemakers find it harder than ever to balance the family budget. And 80 million American wage earners have been on a treadmill … your paychecks were higher, but you were no better off.
So, Nixon took actions that exacerbated and accelerated the very problem he announced he was solving:
I have directed [Treasury] Secretary [John] Connally to suspend … the convertibility of the dollar into gold.
He soothed any concerns people might have Read More
