Abbas tells UN Israeli actions could lead to ‘one state’

Assessment: Abbas said Israel was “destroying the prospect of a political settlement based on the two-state solution” through its settlements on West Bank land it captured in the 1967 Middle East war.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel on Friday of destroying the two-state solution with actions he said could lead Palestinians to demand equal rights within one binational state comprising Israel, the occupied West Bank and Gaza.

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly via video link from the West Bank, Abbas urged countries to act to save the two-state formula that for decades has been the bedrock of diplomacy for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Costco, Nike and FedEx are warning there’s more inflation set to hit consumers as holidays approach

Shipping bottlenecks that have led to rising freight costs are cooking up a holiday headache for U.S. retailers.

Costco this week joined the long list of retailers sounding the alarm about escalating shipping prices and the accompanying supply chain issues. The warehouse retailer, which had a similar cautionary tone in May, was joined by athletic wear giant Nike and economic bellwethers FedEx and General Mills in warning of similar concerns.

The cost to ship containers overseas has soared in recent months. Getting a 40-foot container from Shanghai to New York cost about $2,000 a year and a half ago, just before the Covid pandemic. Now, it runs some $16,000, according to Bank of America.

To ensure you’re paying your “fair share,” the Biden administration now wants to require banks to report aggregate transactions into and out of all personal and business bank accounts whose “inflows and outflows of an account total at least $600 in a year, or if the account has a fair market value of at least $600.”

Leftwing Jewish Democrat Introduces Bill to Make Two-State Solution US Policy, Condition Aid to Israel

Assessment: The same secular Jewish thinking was evident in Israeli General Moshe Dyan who after leading the Jewish Army to victory over Egypt, Syria and Jordan in 1967, decided to turn the Temple Mount over to the Jordanian Islamic Waqf.

Jewish Democratic Rep. Andy Levin (D-Mich.) is introducing legislation that would make a two-state solution official U.S. policy.

Named the “Two-State Solution Act,” it states that “only the outcome of a two-state solution can both ensure the state of Israel’s survival as a democratic state and a national home for the Jewish people and fulfill the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people for a state of their own,” Politico first reported.

It further states that the “West Bank”, including eastern Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, are “occupied territories”—wording that should be referred to “consistently” in official U.S. policies, communications and documents.

The legislation also labels Israeli settlements in these “occupied territories” and “inconsistent with international law,” while “settlement expansion, demolitions of Palestinian homes, revocations of residency permits and forced evictions of Palestinian civilians by Israel [all] impede the establishment of a Palestinian state and violate the human rights of the Palestinian people.” Read More

Assessment: When Naftali Bennett addresses the General Assembly on Monday, talks with the Palestinians or a Palestinian state will not be part of his speech. Joe Biden will not be pleased.

These are some of the words sources close to Prime Minister Naftali Bennett used in recent days to describe the persistence of those within the Israeli government and outside it to constantly bring up the issue of the Palestinians.

And the Palestinians are expected to be mostly absent from Bennett’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Monday.

Bennett has opposed a Palestinian state, on both ideological and national security grounds, consistently throughout his public life.
When he first ran for office, Bennett often said Israel has enough to offer so that its relations with the world should not revolve around the Palestinians.

China Declares All Virtual Currency Transactions “Illegal”, Sending Crypto Prices Tumbling

Assessment: China has no intention of allowing any currency it can’t control

China expanded its escalating crackdown on cryptocurrencies on Friday when its central bank declared that all activities related to digital coins are “illegal” and must be banned.

In a statement the People’s Bank of China said the latest notice was to further prevent the risks surrounding crypto trading and to maintain national security and social stability.

After rough few days, Iron Dome funding prevails, but not without partisan finger-pointing

Pro-Israel Democrats scrambled on Thursday to restore approximately $1 billion to help fund the replenishment of Israel’s Iron Dome air-defense system after funding was stripped earlier this week from the House of Representatives’ legislation due to an effort by progressive members.

The funding had previously been included in the short-term Continuing Resolution (CR) that was passed along partisan lines on Wednesday but removed from the bill on Tuesday after Democrats realized that it would not receive support from Republicans, as it raised the debt ceiling. Facing the prospect of no Republican support to pass the bill, House Democrats sought to pass the legislation on partisan lines, needing every Democrat to vote for it.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus, led by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) met with Democratic leaders on Tuesday and indicated that its members would not support the CR if the Iron Dome interceptor funding was included in the bill.

Fox television host Tucker Carlson revealed a bizarre PowerPoint presentation on Monday that was presented to U.S. Army service personnel in an effort to get them on board with mandatory Coronavirus vaccinations. The slide mockingly asks “how many children have been sacrificed to Satan for the vaccine?” prior to claiming that only three people have died from side effects. The presentation then listed the ‘tenets of Satanism’ which were taken directly from the ‘temple of Satanism’ website.

The US Army admitted that the presentation was indeed shown to service members, however, they claim that it was not approved by Army leadership, according to Carlson, who called the army’s vaccine mandate a “takeover of the US military.”

Fed is evaluating whether to launch a digital currency and in what form, Powell says

Assessment: China leads the nations having already launched the digital yuan/e-renminbi. The US is behind at least 18 countries in developing a central bank digital currency…

The Federal Reserve is pushing ahead with its study into whether to implement its own digital currency and will be releasing a paper on the issue shortly, Chairman Jerome Powell said Wednesday.

No decision has been made on the matter yet, he added, and said the Fed does not feel pressured to do something quickly as other nations move forward with their own projects.

“I think it’s important that we get to a place where we can make an informed decision about this and do so expeditiously,” Powell said at his post-meeting news conference. “I don’t think we’re behind. I think it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast.”
