Celebrating Freedom in the Shadow of Tyranny

Front Page Mag: This year we celebrate our nation’s birth at a time when the foundational ideas that animated our break with England are under siege throughout our political, business, educational, and cultural institutions. The iconic preamble to the Declaration of Independence–– “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”––is under assault, and tyrannical ambition continues to undermine the infrastructure of our liberty.

We focus so frequently on that world-changing preamble that we forget the bulk of the Declaration is a detailed indictment of George III in terms that evoke Classical tyranny, which Aristotle defined as “arbitrary power . . . which is responsible to no one, and governs all alike, whether equals or betters, with a view to its own advantage, not to that of its subjects, and therefore against their will.” The cost of that tyranny is the weakening both of political freedom limited by the tyrant’s will; and of the independence necessary for self-government and full human dignity.

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Gal. 5:13-14

The Declaration, then, contrasts unalienable rights and political freedom with their opposite, tyranny, laying the foundations of a government that by design checks the excesses of power that destroy both independence and freedom. Rather than depend, as the Left has done since the French Revolution, on the progressive improvement of human nature, the Founders believed that people are by nature driven by “passions and interests,” as Madison called them. These forces motivating human destructive action cannot be eliminated or improved either by greater knowledge or by “technicians of the soul,” as Stalin called technocratic oligarchs. Rather, political institutions must divide and balance power so that “ambition counters ambition,” preserving the freedom of all, and forestalling tyranny whether of the minority or the majority.

A century of progressive assaults on the Founders’ architecture has weakened this defense against tyranny. Power has increasingly been expanded and concentrated in the federal government and its agencies. These bureaucracies are insulated from accountability to the people, and unconstitutionally combine the three functions of government––legislative, judicial, and executive––into one institution backed by the coercive power of the state. Boston: A Man Named Khaled Awad Viciously Stabs Rabbi In Broad Daylight, Cops Search for Motive

PJ Media: On Thursday afternoon in Boston, a man named Khaled Awad, 24, approached Shaloh House, a synagogue and school where a children’s day camp was being held. There he encountered Rabbi Shlomo Noginski, who was sitting on the school’s steps and talking on the phone. Awad pulled out a gun and demanded that Noginski hand over his car keys, and also told Noginski to get into the car. Instead, Noginski ran across the street into Brighton Common park. Awad followed and stabbed Noginski eight times; the rabbi is in stable condition in a nearby hospital.

Counter-drone super-weapons tested in joint US-Israel exercise in New Mexico

Debkafile: The US and Israel this month conducted counter-drone tests to meet the urgent need to defend civilian infrastructure and military bases against the fast-spreading threat of hostile UAV warfare. At the Kurtland Aur Force Base in New Mexico, the US tested its new Tactical High-power Operational Responder (THOR) – see photo; Israel its recently revealed airborne high-powered laser weapons.

Both armies are concerned by the accelerating UAV attacks by pro-Iranian Iraqi Shiite militias in Iraq and Syria. Iran has also armed Yemen’s Houthi rebels with killer drones for attacking military sites and oil facilities in Saudi Arabia. Tehran is clearly arming its proxies with deadly UAVs.

Head of Joint Chiefs called out for naming Trump supporters as ‘enemies’

WND: The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Biden is being called out for describing supporters of President Trump as “enemies” of the state.

The charges comes from John Lucas, a lawyer in Tennessee who several times has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court.

He writes at the Federalist that the wild claim from Gen. Mark Milley, who recently was called upon by President Trump to resign, came in his recent comments about the Jan. 6 events at the U.S. Capitol.

First, Lucas points out that the military takes an oath to defend the Constitution “against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

“Military officers take that oath very seriously. It is not something that Milley or any other officer parrots and then forgets,” Lucas, an Army Ranger, said.

But Milley validated the use of military personnel and lethal military force against political opponents of the leftist administration now running the nation, Lucas said. Read More

Will there be another EU ‘exit’ – over homosexuality?

WND: Respect LGBT rights or get out of the EU, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte instructed Hungary’s Viktor Orban at last week’s gathering of the European Union in Brussels.

According to Reuters, attendees described it as the “most intense personal clash among the bloc’s leaders in years.”

What caused the clash?

Hungary just passed a law that bans schools from using materials seen as pro-homosexuality. According to the AP, the new law “prohibits sharing content on homosexuality or sex reassignment to people under 18 in school sex education programs, films or advertisements.”

Rutte eagerly related details of his confrontation with Orban: “It was really forceful, a deep feeling that this could not be. It was about our values; this is what we stand for.”

“I said, ‘Stop this; you must withdraw the law, and if you don’t like that and really say that the European values are not your values, then you must think about whether to remain in the European Union.'” Read More

California Begs For More Electricity As Shift To Renewable Power Leaves State In The Dark

State energy officials asked the California Independent System Operator, which runs most of the grid, to contract for additional power capacity for July and August on concern it won’t be able to meet demand during the evening when solar production fades, according to a joint statement Thursday from grid, utility and energy agencies. LEFT-WING GOVERNMENTS IN ISRAEL, AMERICA: ‘A SIGN OF IMMINENT REDEMPTION PROPHESIED IN DEUTERONOMY’

Israel 365: In a recent video lecture, Rabbi Isser Weisberg addressed Israel’s newly formed government blasting it as a “real insurrection in contrast to the fictitious one of January 6 which occurred only in the demented minds of the leftist democratic party.”

The reason he makes this claim is because as he puts it: “sixty-five percent of all Israelis preferred a right-wing government led by Netanyahu.” However, since Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s New Right party defected to the left, Rabbi Zisser sees no other way to explain the usurpation of the people’s voice than to label it as an ‘insurrection.’

But with all the doom and gloom that goes along with this power-grab, Rabbi Zisser offers a silver lining based on a verse in the Bible. And it is related to the fact that Rabbi Zisser calls those who run the Israeli government as people of Chelm – “a fictitious village of fools.”

“The fact that Israel is governed by the wise men of Chelm is actually a good sign and was prophesied to happen just prior to the redemption in Deuteronomy chapter 32:

For Hashem will vindicate His people And take revenge for His servants, When He sees that their might is gone, And neither bond nor free is left. (Deuteronomy 32:36)

Translating the verse into layman’s terms, the rabbi states: “God will redeem his people when it is clear that they have no one to stand up for them or protect them.” Read More
