Can a Bennett-Lapid government rise to the challenges facing the Jewish state?

Algemeiner: A nervous Prime Minister-designate Naftali Bennett struggled for nearly an hour to deliver what was supposed to be a 10-minute address at one of the most contentious gatherings of Israel’s Knesset in modern history. Bennett was forced to contend repeatedly with the shouts by a right-wing alliance that is now being sent to the backbenches of the opposition.

“Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks?” Ezekiel 34:1 KJV

For many, the speech did little to encourage Israel’s public that a new government will successfully rise to the challenges facing the Jewish state. The incoming coalition includes every member of Israel’s left wing, as well as the Arab Ra’am party, a sister organization of Hamas.

The coalition government, united only by their desire to remove Netanyahu from power, was sworn in without a Knesset majority, passing a first confidence motion by a single-vote margin of 60-59. The deciding vote, Emilie Moatti, a Knesset member from the Labor Party who suffers from a rare spinal condition that currently prevents her from standing or sitting upright, was brought to the Knesset on a stretcher from the hospital to deliver the deciding vote.

The Termination Event

Space Weather: Something big may be about to happen on the sun. “We call it the Termination Event,” says Scott McIntosh, a solar physicist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), “and it’s very, very close to happening.”

If you’ve never heard of the Termination Event, you’re not alone.  Many researchers have never heard of it either. It’s a relatively new idea in solar physics championed by McIntosh and colleague Bob Leamon of the University of Maryland – Baltimore County. According to the two scientists, vast bands of magnetism are drifting across the surface of the sun. When oppositely-charged bands collide at the equator, they annihilate (or “terminate”). There’s no explosion; this is magnetism, not anti-matter. Nevertheless, the Termination Event is a big deal. It can kickstart the next solar cycle into a higher gear.

“If the Terminator Event happens soon, as we expect, new Solar Cycle 25 could have a magnitude that rivals the top few since record-keeping began,” says McIntosh.

Biden’s plan puts U.S. taxes under ‘global control’

WND: The Biden administration is pushing a misguided 21 percent global corporate minimum tax on American businesses. At the same time, the administration is pushing for a global agreement amongst foreign countries to set a foreign minimum tax rate of 15 percent.

“These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.” Revelation 17:23

This is a terrible idea that, if successful, will surrender U.S. sovereignty to foreign leaders in Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, and the European Union in order to bind the world into higher taxes and bigger government.

Fortunately, the proposal requires the sign off of lawmakers in Congress. Democrats and Republicans alike should reject this proposal and stand with American taxpayers. Rather than signing off on this reckless proposal by voting for Biden’s tax hikes, lawmakers should be focused on policies that help American businesses and workers and strengthen innovation, manufacturing, and intellectual property in the U.S.

The Biden administration, led by Secretary Yellen, is pushing the flawed narrative that we need a global agreement locking in high taxes in order to “end the race to the bottom” and “make all citizens fairly share the burden of financing government. Read More

N.J. school district strips holiday names off school calendar, now just have ‘days off’

Just the News: A school district in New Jersey has stripped all holiday names off of its school calendar, instead granting students “days off” with no identifying features in order to avoid upsetting any students who might not celebrate some of the holidays.

“And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.” Matthew 24:10

If we don’t have anything on the calendar, we don’t have to have anyone be hurt feelings or anything like that,” a Randolph Board of Education member told Fox 5 this week.

“I don’t think really it is the board’s responsibility to be naming these holidays,” said another. “Either take them off or just adopt whatever the federal and state governments are doing.”

The school had previously renamed Columbus Day “Indigenous Peoples’ Day,” a decision which had been met with some backlash. Read More

Can Bennett stand up to US on settlements, Palestinian state?

JPost: Prime Minister Naftali Bennett sounded like the right-wing leader that he is when he promised in his Knesset speech, to “ensure the national interest in Area C” of the West Bank.

It’s not an idle line. The phrase was also written into the coalition agreement between his Yamina Party and that of Yesh Atid.

“Then were the people of Israel divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king; and half followed Omri.” 1 Kings 16:21

It was a statement designed to sound to the Israeli Right as if prolonged battle for Israeli control of Area C, that has involved settlement building and the demolition of illegal Palestinian construction, would continue under the new coalition composed of right-wing, centrist and left-wing parties.

Bennett, throughout his political career has been clear that he believes that all of Area C, where all the Israeli settlements are located should be part of sovereign Israel. In the Knesset on Sunday he also spoke of his intent to “strengthen the settlements throughout the Land of Israel.”

MK Ahmed Tibi (Joint List) told the Knesset he understood from those phrases that Bennett intended to pursue a pro-settler policy.

More to the point, while Bennett spoke of the importance of upholding and expanding the peace deals with Arab nations, he neither pledged his support for a Palestinian state nor offered his hand in peace to the Palestinians. Read More

Naftali Bennett sworn in as head of 36th Israeli government

JNS: Israel’s 36th government passed a vote of confidence at a special Knesset session on Sunday night with Yamina Party leader Naftali Bennett sworn in as the country’s 13th prime minister.

“It is an abomination to kings to do evil, for the throne is established by righteousness.” Proverbs 16:12 

Bennett has replaced now-former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who held the position for the past 12 years and who served another three years prior to that, from 1996 to 1999, making him the longest-serving premier in Israel’s history. With the transfer of power, Netanyahu became the head of the opposition, replacing Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid, who, according to a rotation agreement with Bennett, will serve as foreign minister for two years and then assume the role of prime minister.

The special Knesset session on Sunday began with a speech by Bennett, in which he presented the composition of his Cabinet. His address was interrupted several times by shouts of “liar” and “vote thief” on the part of disgruntled right-wing and haredi rivals in the plenum. Read More

The Number of Small Businesses Destroyed by COVID Lockdowns Will ASTOUND You

PJ Media: COVID shutdowns championed by U.S. governors and D.C. bureaucrats are responsible for destroying nearly 40% of small businesses since the virus was unleashed on the world—and we know now that it was for little to no damned good reason. A study by the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences revealed recently that shutdown orders made little to no difference in COVID’s impact. From the abstract of the study:

“When the righteous [a]are in authority, the people rejoice;
But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” Proverbs 29:2

“Previous studies have claimed that shelter-in-place orders saved thousands of lives, but we reassess these analyses and show that they are not reliable. We find that shelter-in-place orders had no detectable health benefits, only modest effects on behavior, and small but adverse effects on the economy. To be clear, our study should not be interpreted as evidence that social distancing behaviors are not effective. Many people had already changed their behaviors before the introduction of shelter-in-place orders, and shelter-in-place orders appear to have been ineffective precisely because they did not meaningfully alter social distancing behavior.” [Emphasis added]

Biden’s Foreign Policy Reset: The End of America First

New American: As Joe Biden attends the Group of Seven (G-7) summit in England this weekend, he seeks to put an end to the America First agenda that characterized the Trump administration’s approach to foreign policy.

The signal from Biden is that the United States will be much more open to international partnerships and initiatives than it was under his predecessor.

“Biden’s taking a much less isolationist approach [that] will spur that good will and he needs to keep doing that,” said John Hudak, who serves as a senior fellow at the left-wing Brookings Institution, before the summit got underway.

“This summit is the first big step in showing the world that America is back to the position it once held,” Hudak added.
