Why was the Jewish response to Durban a failure?

Assessment: Twenty years ago, a U.N. conference against racism was hijacked by a revival of the “Zionism is racism” canard. You can draw a straight line from there to the way critical race theory legitimizes anti-Semitism today.

JNS: Exactly 20 years ago, the egregious proceedings of the Durban Conference illustrated how the international community, and in particular, the United Nations had legitimized anti-Semitism. A conference whose purpose was to oppose racism was essentially hijacked by the Palestinians and their allies, who were eager to revive the United Nations’ since-rejected libel about Zionism being racism.

“ For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.” Deut. 14:2

In an international community in which diversity and various expressions of national identity and self-determination were celebrated, only the Jews were told that the movement dedicated to their rights and self-determination was illegitimate.

The labeling of Israel as an apartheid state—an outrageous libel that gained new momentum after Durban and became a totem of the success of intersectionality, an ideology that became best known for its willingness to analogize the Palestinian war to destroy the one Jewish state on the planet with the struggle for civil rights in the United States and against racism everywhere.

Intersectionality and critical race theory, to which it’s closely related, were initially seen as far-left ideas with little impact on the real world. But from the perspective of 2021, it’s clear that what was embraced at Durban has led to directly to the current situation in which these toxic concepts have not only become embraced by the chattering classes, mainstream media and even leaders of the Democratic Party, but also have effectively given an unprecedented permission slip for anti-Semitism. Zero Hedge: One month ago, when looking at the internals of the UMich report, we noted that there was “A Sudden Negative Change In The Economy” as consumer spending intentions collapsed. One month later, it has only gotten worse.

While overall consumer sentiment staged a modest rebound from last month’s dismal plunge…

… the internals went from bad to worse, and as survey director Richard Curtin explained, “buying attitudes for household durables fell again in early September to a low reached only once before” – during the galloping inflation of 1980 when Volcker hikes rates to 20% while – “long term economic prospects fell to a decade so low.” It wasn’t just durables: as shown in the chart below, sentiment for buying conditions of vehicles and homes was similarly the worst in over 40 years.

As a result, “the decline in assessments of buying conditions for homes, vehicles, and household durables left all three near all-time record lows” with the declines due to spontaneous references to, what else, high prices. Read More

Assessment: General Miley called it a ‘righteous strike’ – condolences but no resignations

Daily Wire: The U.S. military mistakenly killed an Afghan aid worker and nine members of his family, including seven children, during an August 29 drone strike on a purported ISIS-K terrorist.

The Pentagon announced on Thursday that the U.S. killed 10 civilians while carrying out a strike on a target that U.S. intelligence officials believed to be an ISIS-K target. The strike was in retaliation for an earlier terror attack that killed 13 U.S. service members as well as dozens of Afghan civilians.

Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie, commander of United States Central Command, acknowledged the “tragic mistake” on Thursday but said that the U.S. strike team had “reasonable certainty” that the target represented an “imminent threat” to U.S. forces.

“Our investigation now concludes that our strike was a tragic mistake,” McKenzie said.

Fox News: The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has funneled at least $2.7 million into a University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) project that utilizes a tissue bank with organs from aborted fetuses, according to a release from Judicial Watch Tuesday.

The conservative nonprofit obtained hundreds of pages of public records requests, which detail Pitt’s interest in harvesting fetal organs for a project known as the GenitoUrinary Development Molecular Anatomy Project, or GUDMAP. More money was requested by the university but it’s unclear exactly how much it received.

Daily Wire: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) released video that he recorded in Del Rio, Texas, of the national security and humanitarian disaster that has unfolded on Democrat President Joe Biden’s watch.

The video showed thousands upon thousands of illegal aliens who were being held by the Biden administration under an overpass.

Cruz said that more than 10,000 were being held.

“The reason they’re here is simple,” Cruz says in the video. “Eight days ago, the Biden administration made a political decision, a political decision to cancel deportation flights to Haiti. They did that on September 8th. Eight days later these numbers appear.”

4 arrested in plot to attack German synagogue on Yom Kippur

Assessment: Aug 4, 2021 — Germany allocated $41.5 million to fight growing antisemitism amid alarming rise in incidents

Arutz Sheva: Four people were arrested in Germany on suspicion of planning an attack on a synagogue in the city of Hagen on Yom Kippur.

One of the detainees is a 16-year-old Syrian boy. Police have described the plot as “Islamist.”
